Slow and freezing

well, to begin, i have a fifteen inch macbook pro (old version), 2.33 gigs ram, ati radeon X1600, all in all, a fast machine, and i'd like to know if what's happening with my copy of crossover is normal.

it takes 1 to 3 minutes to log in to steam, usually 2, without any other programs running, and it takes a few seconds after I click on any of the buttons before it brings up what i want it to. As soon as I click on TF2, it starts the launching screen, and about 2 minutes later the valve logo pops up. It shows me a glimpse of the main menue, then gives me a white screen for a minute or two, and then i can join servers. Cant see any words on the menue, but i installed the chat text, but it's quite annoying. It takes about 5 darn minutes to actually get into a server, and half the time it freezes on the first menu. I downloaded IE 6.0, but it really didn't help me at all. if I do get in game, to get a descent 40 to 50 fps, i've got to take the graphics down to everything low, which also annoys me. My friends with the same specs as mine who use bootcamp have none of these problems, any suggestions?

While Steam is known to be slow on some boxes(see some Half-Life 2 discussion, it is a random, hard to isolate problem), you seem to have extreme bad luck or something is broken on your Mac. Did you install all MacOS updates? Especially the graphics driver updates shipped with MacOS updates are important.

If the game crashes after joining a server, can you try to set your language in Steam to English, if it is set to something else?

yeah, ill see if all of the updates for the graphics are here, and it's set to english, some of the problem is the fact that the mac's on for a couple days at a time, and most of the time when i reboot and play tf2 with a fresh start, its reealy smooth, if i can get into a server. i'm sure that server crashing has everything to do with ingame websites ( those are quite annoying) i always get into servers that have the chalkboard. Does IE need to be updated? All of the other games on steam work real great with crossover, the only problem is TF2, which is my favorite game right now... well thanks.

hahaaaaa, i moved my computer closer to the internet source, about 2 feet away, originally I was using it about twenty feet away in my dining room, and every thing's so much faster. I got into a game in about 1.5 minutes, and, with graphics on low, ( oh well) i got a steady 70 fps, allowing me to get an eight kill streak as spy. great. now if only i can fix the menue bug...
