Well I know there have been post regarding the mac minis performance with TF2 but has anyone really tried it. I wanted to make sure It was playable in some way before spending $60 to find that it lags so bad I can't even play it. If there are any tips or things I could try to make the performance improve please tell me, Anyway I have 2GHZ intel core 2 duo Mac Mini with 1GB of ram and the GMa 950 with 64 megs of video ram.
Well, I tried it on a Macbook (1st gen.) that has similar hardware specs and it didn't run at an acceptable frame rate. As soon as there is some action on the screen, the game will drop to an unplayable FPS count. No, for me it was not playable or fun at all.
I tried it using the latest version of Crossover Mac and even on Windows XP (lowest -dxlevel helps a bit though). Unfortunately, I can't recommend any of these on a GMA950 or even X3100. The hardware it ran flawlessly on was my iMac with an ATI HD2600 Pro. I'm sorry, but I think you are stuck with that Mac Mini. :)
You do know that it is only $20. (Store/Steam)
It is $50 to buy it in the Orange Box bundle IN STORE, or $30 on Steam.
As for running it, It is barely playable on my GeForce 8600 (Crossover Linux). I'd recommend going the route of having the Laptop for work/light gaming (Like Half Life 1 lightweight), and gaming on the desktop.
