TF2 Crashes before I even get to play.

Ok so I have crossover games Version 7.0 (7.0.1) is exactly what it says. I have a mac OS X V10.4.11 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM.
As soon as I play the game it goes to the opening screen where it tells you about the level and stuff, which no words pop up, but thats okay. Probably 4 seconds in, this dark tint goes from the top to the bottom of my screen slowly then a notice pops up saying "you need to restart your computer, hold down the power button." I'm fairly new to the "mac world." So if you could break it down to me anyone, i would appreciate it! and thanks ahead of time!

Oh and I turned down like all of the video settings, but im still running in the 1000 resolution setting.

you might have more luck with 10.5.x (leopard).
also try updating to cxg version 7.1.

what settings are you attempting to run it at? make sure its dx8 too
i run tf2 on a similar imac (2.4ghz c3d, 4gb ram, radeon 2600 256mb) almost daily and it runs great.
my settings:

  • 800x600, sometimes 1024x768
  • windowed mode
  • very high textures
  • low shadows
  • low models, sometimes high models
  • dxlevel 80
  • bilinear, sometimes trilinear
  • no AA ( i hear progress is being made though :D :D )

rock solid 60fps nearly all the time

While I don't have a Mac, I find on Ubuntu that cranking up the shadow settings and setting water effects to "reflect world" cause the game to crash.

Lex,
CrossOver 7.1 fixes the problems with the MOTD that cause a crash after connecting to some servers.

Unfortunately 7.1 triggers a radeon driver bug in Tiger, that is fixed in Leopard. I finally got over to work on this, and I hope to have a workaround soon.

Ok so i got the new version and it's awesome but now, like alot of other people, when I die it freezes on the guy who killed me. Now I read other threads about people with the same problem, but their solutions don't seem to work for me. any ideas? No graphics problems, no word problems, it just freezes on my killer. Other than that it runs fine!
