No sound at all

I've followed Alex Kornitzer's tip to enable sound but I'm not sure what to do with the files provided. I assumed since they were dlls to put them in System32, but sound still does not work even after changing the sample rate as instructed.

Hi

did you add supremecommander.exe to winecfg?

Alex

Yes I did, it had no affect.

The .dll files you included do go in System32 right?

Otherwise I followed everything under tips and tricks to the letter.

Yup the X3dAudios and the xactengine files go in system32

Alex

Does something else have to be done then? I followed the instructions you gave and there's no sound at all.

Hi

Have yo tried messing around with the direct sound like turning on driver emulation or changing the hardware acceleration. Also have you patched up the game.

Alex

The game was fully patched on my Windows machine. I haven't done anything else with the audio settings.

What do I do to turn on driver emulation and hardware acceleration?

All right I'm noticing that even though I added supremecommander.exe to winecfg and hit okay, if I load winecfg again, the supremecommander.exe listing disappears. All of the other settings I've made are still there, but the exe in the list doesn't show up after I close winecfg.

Hi,

You have to click on 'Apply', then 'Okay' for the winecfg settings to be saved.

Cheers!

Apply is always greyed out when I am simply adding something to the list of applications.

I tried changing a setting and then adding supremecommander.exe, then hitting apply, but when I loaded winecfg again the setting had stuck but supremecommander.exe was again off of the list.

Hi again,

You're probably not changing the -base- configuration...

  • winecfg=>Add application (supremecommander.exe)
  • under that, is the windows version switch which reads 'use global settings' - change that to the windows version you want
  • the 'Apply' button should become active
  • change other winecfg settings as needed, hit Apply=>Okay ...

Cheers!

Okay I followed that as you said. Now supremecommander.exe remains in the list of applications, but there's still no sound even after applying the settings listed in the tips section and here. I toggled driver emulation and hardware acceleration on and off through winecfg and it made no difference.

Hi,

Not having this title myself, I can only point you towards the
WineHQ AppDB entry for this title, where there's quite a bit
of info about the sound problem...see;

http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=7038

Cheers!

One of the suggestions is to register the dll files in order to get them to work. I'm on OSX and have absolutely no idea how to do that, all of the suggestions seem to be on Linux.

Any idea?

Hi did you install the original into a bottle and then copy the patched one in afterwards

Alex

P.S. if worst comes to worst i can upload my bottle if you want :)

I installed it originally, then copied an installed version from my windows machine into the bottle.

I appreciate the offer to upload your bottle but I'd prefer to get my own copy working. You simply dragged and dropped the dlls into the System32 directory? You didn't have to "register" them?

What version of windows was the bottle created under? Mine was windows 2000.

Ahh my bottle is xp

Alex

Let me try reinstalling it again in an XP bottle then to see if that helps anything.

Yay, that fixed it!

However I am still having an issue with the graphics, as detailed here:

http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/browse/name/?app_id=2725;forum=1;msg=72346

Any clue on that?

Hmm sorry if it is the same problem my friend had where hud becomes really messed up then i have no idea

Alex

That's not an issue you have as well? What type of computer are you on, with which hardware?

Hi Alex,

This information should be in your tip&trick so that people
don't trip over the same issue...

Cheers!

Done :)

I posted it in the other thread, since it's not related to the sound issue.
