Re: SuperBeam, EuroBeam and ProSteel
Hi all,
I am a Civil & Structural Engineer that migrated from Windows to Mac in 2008/9, now I have started my own practice and I am finding that most engineering software is Windows Based. Not only structural software but also most major CAD/BIM software companies like Autodesk and Bentley are Windows based.
I have started this thread as I am looking to buy structural engineering software and as part of my testing I will use CrossOver to check how the different software packages I try work. So far I have only tested SuperBeam 4, this is a small and simple package to check timber and flitch beam design and checking to BS5268 Part 2, checking of timber posts and studs to BS5268 Part 2, steel beam design and checking to BS449 Part 2, steel beams to BS5950 and steel column design and checking to BS449 with simple base plate sizing.
At the same time I have also tested EuroBeam 1 that is the same type of software but using Eurocodes and ProSteel 5 that add simple connection design, all these 3 packages are from Greentram Software Pty Ltd.
With only one day of testing I cannot draw definite conclusions but all three packages worked flawlessly in CROSSOVER the only minor bug was that sometimes when accessing the Help window when choosing a different topic it would go blank, but closing the help window and opening it again would allow you the access to the part of help you needed, so the only minor bug I detected was the inability to move between topics within the help window as it would go blank.
I have already added SuperBeam to the Database and I have giving it a BRONZE rating for now, so I will continue sharing my tests on the SuperBeam family and I will initiate new posts in this thread with other software that I try.
The main reason to open this thread is to allow Structural Engineers and other users of CROSSOVER to add their experiences so we can finally start using Engineering software on a Mac environment.
Regards,
Manuel
