Works without sound

I tested this game with Crossover Games 10.1 running on a Power Mac Quad 2010 model. 6 GIG Ram. 5770 Video.

The game installed and started OK (Win XP Bottle), but I got no sound. Starting installing the various versions of DirectX, .net Framework, and other runtime components with no success. Also tried the DirectX End User runtime via the crosstie. Still no luck.

Played through the game for a while with no sound and did not encounter any other problems. If someone figures out why the sound fails to work, this title might rank silver or even gold.

I'll have to setup a Linux box before I can test the Linux version of Crossover Games.

Hi,

I'll checkout the demo version for clues about the sound (I've been
haunting sound issues lately ;) I'll post back eventually...

Cheers!

Update: using the demo version, I was able to get sound working by installing app_id=4099
into the same bottle, and then setting a library override for dsound.dll to 'native'...

...that said, the sound was choppy and less than acceptable - can you confirm this against
the full version?

Cheers!

Installed app id 4099 (DirectX) as requested. As for the sound, I hear it now, but it is stuttering and speech is difficult to understand. This time around I also noted some graphical glitches during gameplay. I thought I had fixed that.

I may have been too generous with a bronze rating. I'll keep plugging at it; I'm hoping to get this one to work.

Hey again,

Thanks for the cross-check! I was looking to establish whether the full version
behaved the same as the demo under like conditions, before holding the demo up as
an example of the issue (for the devs to have something to poke at =) I believe the
graphics artifacts you are seeing, would be somehow interrelated with the sound being
a total raspberry (when you work around things to get it going) - I'll hoist a wishlist
bug against it, as there's more than one app having issues with dsound....

...as for the 'bronze' ranking, that is both reasonable & fair in this situation, as it
appears to me most of the other game functions work as expected, just sound is screwed
up ... (and if you can live without sound, the title seems to perform at silver or better).

...ftr, the only way you will get this to work any better (sound wise), is to avoid the
bullet of a native dsound.dll -- going by my debug, it's missing functions in our builtin
dsound.dll stopping the show. Like I say, I know of a few apps(games) prone to the same
issue, and as yet, I have not found an effective work-around to make sound without the
annoying cacophony the current work-around presents us with 8)

I'll rattle a bug report together in the next few minutes, it'll appear on the 'Bugs' tab here...

Cheers!
