cannot download any games from my steam library - "content servers unreachable"

Steam installs fine, loads my library, but when I try to download / install anything, it just gives me the error "content servers unreachable"

This is on a macbook pro running High Sierra 10.13.5

Any help would be appreciated. So far, just glad I didn't pay for crossover.

I'm having the exact same issue on Linux Mint 17 with the latest version of Crossover. I tested Half Life 2 in Steam native, and it worked without issue. When I tested it in Steam on Crossover, I got the "content server unreachable" issue. I'm seeing it reported by some using Wine as well, so it looks like it's an underlying Wine issue.

exact same problem for me after i reinstalled steam on crossover, it worked before like probably 1 week ago i could perfectly download games in steam but not after i reinstall it. now it keeps saying content server unreachable.
however i also have a steam mac port in wine and on that i have no problems to start downloading,

I am experiencing the same Problem. I made sure that there isn't any kind of proxy anywhere. Debian 9 Stretch

There is a bugreport over at winehq. I added a workaround that works for me, maybe that helps you too.

First of all. Thank you Sir.
Second. What do these changes in the config do
and also are you allowed to modify these without getting banned etc.

I'm not entirely sure, but AFAIK these are addresses where steam can download the games from. I got the list from my old wine steam installation, so there should be no problem. Dunno why they are missing in a fresh steam install though.

On a sidenote, how do I make that I get a mail notification when a new reply is made?

How long have you used those tho? I am really afraid of getting my acc suspended. Btw I don't get notifications I just open the page regulary.

I used them for many years now, since I first installed Steam. Why would you get trouble for using a config that Steam itself made?

Hi all,

I just wanted to let everyone who is experiencing this problem with Steam know that we are aware of this issue and are currently working on a fix for CrossOver. This "content servers unreachable" error was caused by a Steam update, and we will be releasing a CrossOver update when we have a complete fix. In the meantime, feel free to use the hack that Fabian mentioned. If you would like to be notified as soon as we have a fix, you can file a ticket with us using the "Contact Us" link at the top of this page and mentioning this problem or Bug 16150 (the relevant bug on our internal bug tracker).

Thanks,
Anna

when will the update release cause I want to finish fallout 3, New Vegas, fallout 1, and fallout 2.

Hello,

I just wanted to add to this...
even with the fix, friends can't connect, workshop can't connect, even store pages have difficulty... I've tried copying other URLs from my Steam for Steam OS (Linux)... to no avail.

The config.vdf did allow me to be able to download games.

Hope this gets fixed for all of steam soon. Nice to be able to mod games out.

Hello,
Yesterday we released CrossOver 17.5.1, which should fix this issue for newly installed Steam bottles.
Using that release, and with a fresh install of Steam, are you still seeing problems / getting the 'content server unreachable' error?

Yes I'm afraid it still got this problem. I upgraded my one version to one year because of this fix... but it doesn't work (I'm not complaining - CrossOver is still an excellent piece of software, so buying a one year upgrade was not a mistake)

Hmm, darn. Just to reiterate, the fix will only work for a new install of Steam (i.e., one done with the new 17.5.1 release). But it sounds like for some reason it's not working for you.

I'm curious to know more - what OS & version you're using, maybe gather some logs if that is OK with you. For that reason I'm going to forward this post to our support staff in hopes that we can learn more about why this isn't fixed in your case.

I am having this issue as well, even after the update and creating a new bottle after the update was applied.

Jason (and anyone else still seeing this problem with Steam),

Please feel free to also file tickets using the "Contact Us" link at the top of this page. This will help us gather data from as many machines as possible to try to determine the problem, as well as link you to a bug so you can be notified when we find a solution. In the meantime, I would be curious if the fix mentioned by Fabian in this post and outlined in Comment #4 on Wine HQ Bug 45329 works for people seeing a problem in CrossOver 17.5.1?

Thanks,
Anna

Thanks, I tried that. I seem to be able to use the steam friends, library, download games, etc. Excellent!!

17.5.1 and new Steam bottle didn't worked for me but config.vdf edit from Wine bug 45329
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=45329
on the old bottle worked. (Sierra 10.12.6)

I attempted to reproduce this but got the correct behavior with a fresh bottle on 10.12.6, so I forwarded your issue to our support team to gather more information. Thank you for reporting!

I'm on 17.5.1 and the config "fix" is what works so far.

I have the same issue... Cant download any games from the library... What can I do? I tried a fresh reinstall of codeweavers and steam

I'm interested to know what OS / version / distro you are using. I also forwarded your post to our support staff. Obviously some setups still suffer from this problem, but we don't see this in-house.

(If you can and know how, and are on Linux, knowing what version of gnutls you're using would be interesting.)

I myself am using a 2012 Retina MacBook Pro.
Mojave beta.
17.5.1

Same issue, Retina iMac 2017, 10.13.6, just installed Steam, logged in, but cannot download anything. Crossover 17.5.0.31445

Clean install of Linux Manjaro 17.1
Clean install of Crossover Linux using generic 17.5.1 install bin including needed additional dependencies.
Clean new install of Steam bottle with the note at the bottom referring to the temporary patch fix on WineHQ
Downloaded 17.5.1 because issue was supposed to be resolved.
Yes I have a current subscription :D like the others not complaining but shrug the fix ......

Steam-Error
An error occurred while updating ... game.... (content servers unreachable)

For verification did a clean install on my Linux Mint from 18.3 to 19 including above required steps and sadly same result. No friends, no game downloads etc.

edit - the workaround did not resolve the issue for me.

Do you know what version of libgnutls you have?

Same issue....new steam bottle...Mac High Sierra 10.13.6

Do you happen to have installed any software via macports or homebrew?

So had similar issue when installing from some Steam Games bottles.

Then installed STEAM bottle only and It is working correctly. Steam bottle downloads steam setup exe from CodeWeavers servers. That is working, and I am able to download various games.

<edit>

Also just tested by downloading to a Win7 - 32 bit bottle from Steam and testing and everything is working. On a Mac with home-brew and a lot of other things.

I don't have either (don't know what they are either....maybe thats a good thing..lol)

Heh. Yes, for this purpose, maybe so. :)

I just tried Yury German's 2-step workaround and it eliminated the problem. I created the bottle (although I created a Win 10 bottle for Star Trek Online) named Steam Test, THEN I i used the "install software" command into the bottle. Thanks Yury
It's odd that the automated system can't combine the 2 steps, but I'm happy now.

William, I am one of the advocates for Star Trek on-line and posted a question on the Advocate forum about that. I am going to try to combine that in to one thing, but first need to get some specifics about the particulars from the Code Weaver Staff.

Thanks Yury...have you gotten STO to run via Steam? I tried with both a Win10 and a Win7 bottle but no success (even waited 10 min on first launch like in the past). I thought it may be Arc defender or something stopping it from running but not sure if Steam uses that.

No it does not work at this time. They dropped Direct X 9 if I am correct and went to Direct X 11, I think CodeWeavers is working on that.

So Good news... could not disclose it before. But Star Trek Online now works with an 18.0.0 - 64 Bit Bottle. Cross Tie has been updated for it to load on the game directly. There are still some problems with Graphics (minor) and sound. But I am sure CodeWeavers will work through them.

Try switching your Download Server Location and I am pretty sure it's because of that. But if somehow it don't fix your problem, try reinstalling. FINGER CROSSED :)
