Hmm my mistake it was just Steam being silly for a long time.
However, the program will freeze forcing you to kill all wine applications if Steam is acting up again.
Still, microphone doesn't work.
I've narrowed the steam issue down to the following:
When steam has trouble connecting to a server after you've told it to, it will freeze at around 3 bars while displaying the connecting to server window. The only solution at that point is to reset Crossover using the killswitch.
This can be prevented to some degree by making sure you can reliably ping/refresh the server for a few times before trying to connect - otherwise you raise the chances of steam not being able to and locking up in the process.
