Trouble connecting to internet thru Steam

I installed Crossover Version 12.1.2 (12.1.2.26862) a couple of days ago and was working fine with the Windows version of Steam in hopes of getting into the beta test for Defiance. I got the email today that I got in! Happy as heck I opened Crossover, then went to open Steam and it kept saying that I could not log in because of no internet access. I checked my Safari and it was up and getting web pages just fine. I then shudder installed Internet Explorer thru Crosover and it worked just fine. This tells me that I have internet access thru Crossover.

Please help me figure this out.

I am running a Mac tower, OSX 10.8.3 (currently fully updated). My service provider is RoadRunner, using their Surfboard modem/router. I have made sure that any and all ports that need to be open for Steam are open. I am actually a "retired" computer/network tech that has been doing this stuff since 1975 (on IBM mainframes was my beginning).

Thanks much!

Sounds like Steam acting up. Quit Crossover to clear any stuck processes in memory and try again. If it was working before then it should connect again. I've also had temporary connect failures running Steam natively in Windows 7. Sometimes they're just doing server maintenance and trying again gets it working.

I found this and it worked for me. Found it on Winehq.org

How to fix "Could not Connect to Network" Issue.

For those experiencing the "Could Not Connect to Network" problem often the Windows solution is to delete the ClientRegistry file. To do that, delete the: "(your-prefix)/drive_c/Program Files/Steam/ClientRegistry.blob"
