Feedback about SC2 on Ubuntu 10.04

Hi,

This post is just here to share my experience about this games.

Config:

  • CPU: Intel C2D 2,33GhZ ; GPU: nVidia 9600GT ; Ram: 2Go
  • Dist: Ubuntu 10.04 x64 ; Driver : nVidia 256.44 ; cxGames: 9.1; Linux 2.6.32 (or 2.6.35)

Installation: I installed the game after creating a new bottle and using
the wizard.
*Few troubles and solutions:

  • When I needed to remount the DVD, I needed to (1) add option "-o remount" to the command printed by the wizard and (2) change /dev/cdrom to /dev/scd0.
  • After installing the game, I chose "play" at the bottom right of the SC2 installer. Doing this, cxGames was still waiting for the installation to finish and never did the next steps. So I tried to reinstall the game the same way and when I quited the SC2 installer (without reinstalling the game) cxGames created the shortcut

First launch: After creating my Battle.net account I run the games using "Applications>Windows Games>Starcraft II>Starcraft II".
*Few troubles and solutions:

  • The game crash when I tried to login to my Battle.net account (before asking my password). It was using linux 2.6.35-14-generic from Ubuntu kernel's ppa. I just did it with linux 2.6.32-24-generic with succes.
  • After a crash StarCraft II.exe process sometime still exist and prevent me for launching the game. Ending the cxGames bottle solved it.

The game.
Now the game runs quite smoothly on my hardware, but there is trouble with the sound that often stops itself during the cinematics and that's quite annoying. Otherwise it seams to work normally :).

See the "Tips & Tricks" section for this game. Each one of your issues, including for the sound, has a resolution there.

yea tips and tricks is the right place setting sound to emulated works. But i kinda didn't like it in emulated mode so i found that if i save and reload from inside the game it typically gets the sound going again.
