Starcraft Crashing/Locking up

Hello,

I am having problems with SC2 crashing in two different ways.

1) It will crash randomly during campaign missions. The whole game will crash and close out. But when it returns to Ubuntu from SC2 I have the SC2 mouse cursor instead of the Ubuntu Cursor, so I am unable to click anything in the Ubuntu UI until I Alt+Tab.

2) It will freeze during multiplayer games. The music will keep playing, the graphics will freeze and it does not respond to keyboard or mouse input. When this happens I have to reboot my computer.

Any help resolving those issues would be great!

The random crashes may be related to SC2 and wine not agreeing on the amount of video ram that you have. See this link for info on how to manually set that:

http://www.codeweavers.com/support/wiki/linux/faq/videomemorysize

On the same page there is a link at the bottom with more pictures...

As for the mouse issue, that is something common to most Blizzard games that I've played. You can either Alt-Tab (if any other application windows are open) or just press the Windows key (also known as Super or Meta) which should bring up Unity Dash and this will also fix the mouse for you.

I'm still on 12.04 since I've noticed some problems with 14.04, like the launcher for "The mighty quest for epic loot" just crashing... Did not have the patience to investigate further :/

I will give it a try... It says to set the ram to 512 MB, should that be 8192 MB in my case since I have 8GB of video ram?

That is an example, you can set it to any value that is not higher than what is available. Alternatively, if it still bombs, you can set it to 1024 or 2048 and see if that fixes things...

I will be happy to run extensive tests to see if it crashes! :D :P

Sadly no, it is still crashing.

Did you try to lower graphics settings to the minimum and running the game in a window?

Is this a clean install or upgrade?

I have tried Windowed mode by emulating a virtual desktop. Still crashing but seemingly not as often.

I have tried ultra and high graphics modes and both crash. I can try a lower graphics mode and see what happens.

Thanks for the tips, its good to have ideas to try.
