StarCraft

I just downloaded and installed StarCraft (not StarCraft II) from the Blizzard site.

It installed OK but when I start it the sound works but the graphics are sort of "running through". It looks like an old television picture when the antenna is broken.

Did anybody get this to work. Allegedly the current patch is "gold" and the original game "silver" in Crossover.

This is Mac OS X Lion on a 2009 Mac Pro (8 cores), two monitors (didn't try disconnecting one), and Crossover 11.2 (or whatever is current).

There is bug with CrossOver 11.2 and Mac OS X Lion with certain older games running in fullscreen mode.

Currently the only solution is to run the game in virtual desktop mode.

I am successfully running StarCraft: Brood War 1.61.1 in full-screen.

I am using a Mac Pro with OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion. My display is connected via DVI set to 1920 x 1200 resolution.

A friend of mine does have the tearing screen problem when trying to play in full-screen. He is using a Mac Mini with OS X 10.8. His display is connected via HDMI set to 1920 x 1080 resolution.

I have tested 1920 x 1080 on my Mac and Starcraft works. I have also tried 4:3 resolutions closer to the 800 x 600 ratio of the original game. 1600 x 1200, 1280 x 960 and 1028 x 768 also all work.

Does the issue lie in the HDMI connection?

Yeah I have the same thing mine is like a white flash screen

Its annoying

I hope they fix it soon

My guess would be that StarCraft doesn't like multi-core CPUs, as it is a quite old game. Windows and Linux offer ways to limit a process to one CPU(via the task manager on Windows, and taskset on Linux). I could not find an equivalent feature in OSX though.

Note that this is just a wild guess. If you find a way to set the CPU affinity of the StarCraft process or tell OSX to boot with one CPU core only it's worth a try to confirm or reject the hypothesis.

Hey I guys I kinda fix it I think there are some components that you need to install like direct x and other stuff. It does not really work yet 100% on my rMBP but when I hook it up on lower lcd screen it works. The thing I installed origins software from EA and it install the other windows components. Hope this helps and give it a try update me when the things works. Thanks

In the latest build of CrossOver (not yet out to non-advocates I believe), StarCraft: Brood War 1.16.1 runs flawlessly. I've personally tested it and soon in the new release of CrossOver (whenever that is done, I don't know when codeweavers will decide to release it) everything will be fixed including the graphics issues. There is only one minor bug: the mouse cursor being displayed over the software cursor in full screen but that's it. Full screen works as well in Mountain Lion and Lion again and there are no color issues. It's just a matter of being patient for the full release of a new version of CrossOver.
