Network problems using the new x-wing vs tie fighter release

I installed the X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter reboot that was recently released via GOG and it works, unless I try to host a game. If I use IP, nothing happens. If I try IPX I get a connection failure error asking me to make sure my windows 95 network settings are properly configured. Is there anywhere I can look to help me get the networking going?

Sorry for the late reply, I'm catching up on old forum posts...

IPX is an outdated protocol and not supported by OSX and Windows Vista and newer. Most likely GOG placed an IPX emulation library into the game installation. Look for a ws2_32.dll or wsock32.dll file in the game directory. If there's a wsock32.dll you can try to use winecfg (see bottle setup tool) to add a library override wsock32=native. That way CrossOver will use the emulation library instead of our own. Winecfg will pop up a warning that overriding this library will not work. Ignore this warning.

If there's a ws2_32.dll in the directory you're out of luck though ☹️ .
