No Graphics Visible, then Crashes (Crossover Games 7.2)

I've been trying to run X-Wing Alliance on my iMac under Mac OS 10.5.6 using Crossover Games 7.2. I installed the game in a Windows 98 bottle.

The game installs perfectly.

I can create a new pilot using the "launcher."

When I run the game, it shows the LucasArts logo for a few seconds, then the screen goes black. There's a vertical line visible for a while, then it stays black. I can hear the audio track from the intro movie playing.

If I click or press a key to skip the intro movie, I here a buzz and the game crashes. If I wait for the intro movie to play through, eventually the movie is interrupted by the buzz and the game crashes.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong, since it seems like other people had an easier time getting the game working (under CrossOver 7.0). Perhaps it no longer works under CrossOver 7.2.

It may very well be that the game ceased working in CrossOver Games 7.2. I don't know, but that kind of thing happens, unfortunately. You can download an earlier version from your account page and try.

You might try forcing CrossOver Games out of full-screen mode when it's just a black screen. Press Command-Option-R, the shortcut for the Restore Display item in the Window menu.

Alternatively, you might try running the game in a virtual desktop window. You can configure that using the winecfg control panel for the bottle.

You can try using the Debug Options section of the Run Command dialog to collect a basic log. We can't offer to analyze the log for you, but you may find some clues there.

I've also had this problem, and I think it is because of the fact that crossover games for mac does not support joysticks yet, and the game requires one to run.
