primary cause of wine failure discovered, patch enabling login and play posted

Hi everybody,

Carsten Juttner posted a patch which enables logging in and playing the game:

http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=39208

This is not an optimal solution, but it does work. Anyone who can build and patch their own wine can now play.

Hopefully this is not too late to make it in to wine-1.4 or crossover XI.

Hi! How we can use it? Give instruction please!

That's good news. I'll give it a try sometime in the next couple of days and see how it works. Hopefully it's something into a future (but not too far away) version of Crossover :)

It doesn't look like this made it into the final build of 11.0 that was released today. I'll check it out when I get home, though.

It's not in the release version of CrossOver 11, but CrossOver users have access to an unsupported version. The patch necessary to get it to work is not quite 'polished' enough code-wise to be included across the board in release, but it does appear functional and result in good gameplay. Thanks to Mr. Juttener!

If you log into your CodeWeaver's account on our web-site and navigate to the 'Downloads' section, then look in 'Unsupported Downloads', a version is available for both Mac & Linux.

Please note that these are unsupported builds. They appear to allow gameplay, but please don't overwrite your main CrossOver installation with these, nor use them for purposes other than playing swtor ... you've had fair warning ...

Look back here for instructions & helpful hints. And enjoy swtor!

(Also, if you experience ongoing login issues, please post here. There are some glitches with server selection which we think are worked around in our unsupported build, but of course, it being unsupported, ymmv. If you have problems, though, please post here ... we may have more tricks up our sleeve if we need them ...)

Well, I've tried all the tricks, but game crashes are pretty much all I can guarantee any more. Only sith characters starting on korriban seem to work at all, and as soon as they enter another planet environment (imperial fleet is fine), they crash and burn. Sadly, I think it's time to setup bootcamp and do it the other way if there are no further suggestions.

Basic crashes are all related to graphics freeze, I think. Sound has some issues once in a while (static and then loss of sound at times), but graphics just seem to be a continuing fail. When crash occurs, sound continues in it's current loop (not sure what loop times are, but seems to depend on where the loop the crash occurs as to how much is actually looped. Have to cmd + alt + esc to get out of game, them reopen crossover and close again to fully cause game to terminate. Even with all of this, however, the next attempt to log in finds that the previous attempt is still logged in, and has to cycle back to character screen before it will allow another attempt.

Somewhat depressing to be considering bootcamp after all this time, but if I want to play...
