EA Origin Service

while TOR may not be out yet, they have opened pre-orders today. so the time is soon coming.

what would be a profitable area of investigation would be to get EA's Origin service running under WINE. it currently does not, and it will be the digital distributor for TOR (or at least a major one since the digital pre-order is ONLY from Origin.)

I agree that this should be the first focus. Most of us will be getting the digital version of the game, and EA's Origin application will be how it is delivered. I am certainly not happy to see another Steam-type plague upon the world, but it is what it is.

The Origin client application is freely downloadable from EA (after creating a free account), and it currently does not work with Crossover Games. It installs and runs the first few screens, but when it gets to what I assume is the main content screen I see only a black box with some artsy corners, and it hangs hard there. I must kill it via the Manage Bottles interface, but even then it often stays on screen, atop other windows. This sequence is repeatable.

I would certainly be willing to help test this out, but I have no experience with debugging within Crossover products. I read well and learn fast, though, so if any devs would like to point me in the right direction I'll get started.

From reading the TOR forum, the DVD version doesn't use the EA Origin download as a front end of the client. Yes, the digital version does in fact use the EA Origin to download it, but.... Once it downloads it uses the same client... at least thats what the developers give the impression.

That's good news, Jerry, but what it doesn't impact is the beta testing period, which is our greatest shot at getting this game to work via CX Games on release day. Anyone that gets a test invite will have to use Origin to get the game client.

Cant test myself as my computer is less than operational until i get a new cpu and ram for the new rig
old rig is now a media center

Version 8.2.5.2532 - 106754 is the current build of origin.

BioWare has stated that Origin is not required to run/play SWTOR, so there is no need to have origin installed or running in CrossOver.

Confirmed in beta, origin is not needed.
But i have bf3 so i got it anyway.
