KI,
I'm currently running SWTOR under Wine-Staging 2.14 in Ubuntu, without Crossover, or any issues at all. I didn't need to make any changes to the "launcher.settings" file, or run "swtor_fix.exe."
I have managed to get this working using the regular production CrossOver build.
Bioware has released a fix for XP/Vista which can be downloaded from http://cdn-patch.swtor.com/patch/LauncherRepairUtilityP1.8.2_EOL_xpvista.exe
To fix my SWTOR installation I did the following (after some trial and error):
Not sure if the patch will continue to work on future releases but at least this seems to work for now until a new version of CrossOver releases with the new Wine build.
Jimmy,
could you actually play the game? With the patch I have the same issue I have with the last nightly builts and under 17.0.0beta2. I experience 3-5 seconds delay on anything that I do, making the game impossible to play.
Thank you for your reply.
IMPORTANT: Nightly build 20170811 works with TOR. Use at your own risk! You still need swtor_fix.exe, but "Performance Enhanced Graphics" don't glitch anymore. I haven't tested if it actually improves performance, but it works at least.
Note: Have tried it now and the network code seems to have some issues. There's a few seconds lag on anything that you do. So, unfortunately not usable as of yet. Still, a big thanks to the guys at Codeweavers for working on this issue.
Same issues with Beta 2 and nightly builds 20170815 and 20170824. Everything works, but with 3 to 5 seconds delay. On other peoples screens it looks like your character is warping through space. This happens on both my Hackintosh as well as my '17 MacBook.
After the fix, there is a new problem when I start launcher: Unable to retrieve patch data. Please check network connection. (206)
I am now having the same issue - Unable to retrieve Patch Data. Please Check Network Connection.
If I change Bitraider_disable to True and bitraider_force_bitraider to false, I have the unable to connect error
Setting Bitraider_disable to false and bitraider_force_bitraider to False, I get the same error
Setting Bitraider_disable to True and bitraider_force_bitraider to True, I see the app indicate Initializing in the lower left of the window and nothing happens after waiting an hour
Not sure if I'm missing something or if the initialization and download just takes forever and doesn't update the screen at any point

You should set one of them to false and the other to true - with those settings that you've showed - you are always enabling bitraider.
To disable bitraider set Bitraider_disable to True and bitraider_force_bitraider to False.
I've tried that setting as well.
When completely disabled, I receive the error "Unable to retrieve patch data. Please check network connection. (206)"
I've deleted and reinstalled, stepped through the recent fixes to get it to work, and even reinstalled Crossover (Yes, I know it had nothing to do with it, but I'm frustrated)
I can play via parallels, but it performs like crap
I'm at a loss as to what to try next
TOR is currently NOT working under CrossOver and will not work (probably for quite some time) until Codeweavers will incorporate at least Wine Staging 2.13 in CrossOver. We're currently at Wine Stable 2.0.2. I'm currently playing TOR under Wine Staging 2.16. It is fairly easy to install and use. Not as easy as CrossOver, but you can make it work.
I downloaded SWTOR through crossover on my late 2009 iMac and I keep getting a certificate authenticate failure when i try to run the game I tried it several times then I uninstalled and reinstalled and tried again and got the same issue any idea how I could fix this?

Please read through the thread. It is currently not working.
does anyone know if its still broken with 17.0? or do we need to wait for 18.0 (with wine 3.0?)
Still broken, since CrossOver is still on a stable Wine 2.0 branch. I currently recommend installing Wine Staging 2.2x directly, which is working just fine, with no extra work.
Hi Andreas!
I'm trying to help my niece get TOR running on her Macbook remotely via sms. In your last post you mentioned something about running Wine Staging to get TOR working... Can you elaborate about that or point me at some clear info that I can use to help her get TOR working on her Mac?
Thanks so much,
Toby

You need to download Wine from here:
https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/macosx/download.html
Choose Wine Staging (currently at Wine 2.21). Just install it on your niece's Mac. You will find a Wine application in the Applications folder. Run this. WARNING: a terminal window will open. Run "winecfg" by typing exactly that on the command line an press Enter. You will get two requests to install Mono and another thing (forgot, what it was), to which you should agree. If any of these things go wrong, your Wine installation will not work. Once a Windows 2000 style window pops up, your Wine installation is complete. You can close that window.
Now you need to navigate via Finder to your SW:TOR bottle. From there you go to:
drive_c/Program Files/Electronic Arts/Bioware/Star Wars - The Old Republic/
Create a shortcut of launcher.exe and move it to your desktop. Highlight launcher.exe and press CMD-I. Set the standard program to open .exe files from "CrossOver" to "Wine Staging".
That's it! Use the shortcut on your desktop to start TOR.
IMPORTANT EDIT: Removed swtor.exe and changed it to launcher.exe.
This isn't working for me. I followed the directions but it won't open from the swtor.exe file. I can get it to open with the launcher.exe file, but it just hangs. I'm wondering if I need to change the launcher.settings info, because I had to mess with that before to get it to work with code weavers.
This is what it says now (I removed my login name for the forum):

Does that look right? I can't imagine what else might be causing the launcher to hang...
Please read the title of this thread and the thread itself. It is not working.

Guys not working at this time (as said above). We (Advocates) have let the Developers know about it, they are well aware that this is not working. It is not as simple as flipping a switch as a number of games (I am advocating quite a few of them) are having problems from the switch from Dx9 to Dx10/11. There is no workaround within CrossOver but I am sure they are trying.
