KOTOR 2 white screen in game :(

Hello,

I am having a problem with KOTOR 2, used with Crossover 8.1.3.
The mac is an coreduo imac with atix1600
OS is 10.4.11

So:
-the installation runs fine

  • the game opens, i can create my character etc etc
    but
when i enters the first level, i only see a white screen, i can hear the bg music though

I tried all the solutions and workarounds for this title given on the forum, so i hope somebody can come up with another solution!

Bye!

Merry christmas!

I'll add that fiddling around i also tried to enable the useGLSL trick, but still get the white screen...

Hi,

What installation media are you installing from?...ie; cd/dvd, direct download,
Steam....also, have you tried turning on 'emulate a virtual desktop' in winecfg?
(I suppose you have)...

Sometimes, it might help to set OffscreenRenderingMode to backbuffer using regedit
...have you tried anything like this?

Cheers!

Hi Don,

Thanks for your answer

I am actually installing it from an iso i made from the dvd for convenience, in fact everything goes fine (menus, character setup...etc etc) untill the first level where i get the white screen, then becomes a black screen (i suppose the game is showing a different image behind)

While trying in windowed mode, i noticed that moving the screen over the desktop border would reveal an image from the game behind the white or black screen. The image is not complete though (missing in-game menus, dialogue box for example)

I checked for similar problems on other games on the forum and tried the workarounds offered then (like useGLSL=enabled or the control window option) and it did not worked either...

I just tried the offscreen tweak you indicated but still did not work, i tried it "bare" and also combined with the virtual desktop option with no change in the results

I have just deleted the bottle and will try again later from scratch, i am pretty sure that the problem is from the atix1600 management from wine or crossover but i have no idea how to fix this

i am not discouraged yet ah ah!

Hi,

Yeah...I'd probably think you're fighting the x1600 as well..

This might be arduous, but you could look through the following
search results and perhaps find a clue about what might work wrt
the ati x1600 situation;

Cheers!

well, i will try again tommorow then,

I just read some stuff about framebuffer effects set to 0 or disabled

do you think it might work?

what would be your best bet for the options to select?

Bye

Tried again with several regedit modifications (i dont catch well which string does what....) and so far not improvements.
Any inputs welcome! Pretty frustrating as the game is awarded a silver medal...

Hi,

Ok...going by the entries in the tips&tricks section, this title
has a CD/DVD check mechanism -- this is unlikely to work on the
Mac due to MacOSX scsi driver limitations -- as best I can figure
it, this title uses the Securom DRM system, and probably won't
work on the Mac with optical discs.

There is some more information on this title over at WineHQ AppDB;

http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=1980

You may get some clues there. Alternately, this title is also available
via Steam, and as such isn't subject to CD/DVD check limitation - for
Mac users, this may be the best option...see;

Hope this helps...

Hi Don

thanks for your input will take a look!

Bye

Boumaco,

I have a mid 2009 MacBook Pro and only received a whited out screen once and had just played through the entire game. What I found to be the issue for me was a corrupted saved game file (moved the save directory to a windows computer and received the same error). While this might not be the issue for you I had played through on 8.0.0 with checking my save files on later versions. I'll check when I get home but it could be that 8.1.3 somehow created a problem with initial launch after character creation.

Hi Michael

SUre the issue look similar, are you using 813 now?

Different game. That is KOTOR 1, the original one. KOTOR 2 isn't available via Steam yet.

Yep

I am quite sure it is just a graphic option i have to set somewhere...but where? and which one? that's the question 😋
