Since most of the issues people have had with this game are related to DRM, I'm wondering if anyone has tried the Steam version?

No....but hey, seeing it's on special for $5 just now, I'm going to buy it
and find out....do note however, there's a notice on the Steam page that they
are negotiating more keys for that title, so I'm not exactly sure when I'll
be able to check it out...even tho' I just purchased it (8

Steam version of this title (the GOLD edition) seems to work
fine on linux with CXG-9.1 -- it did try to start in some
fullscreen mode that was shifted left and unusable - restarting
with emulated desktop enabled works fine though and you can
adjust the ingame resolution options from there.
Gets a silver medal out of the box...seems to run quite well
though (I played through the first tutorials without problem).
Perhaps with more game play it might be worth gold...
