How's this in 7.1?

can anyone provide a more detailed report as to how this game and (if possible) its expansion are performing under 7.1? it's a title of major interest to me as to whether i'll pick up Crossover or not.

thanks in advance!

It doesn't work for me, I get an exception. I am running Ubuntu 8.04 LTS with Crossover games 7.1.1.

Somewhat interesting to me that I'm getting that very same exception window trying to start the game up on my Windows XP rig. How far into the game did you get? I was able to see the first screen, the LucasArts and Petroglyph logos, and then a black screen with "Loading..." in the lower-left corner. Then it just sat there until I pressed escape, at which point I saw the exception window.

Seeing as how I'm not even trying to do this in CXG, it's probably totally unrelated (some hardware issue, mot likely. I haven't been able to figure out what's wrong with this Windows XP rig for over a year). Anyway, just thought I'd share.

EAW is running great for me with CXG 7.1.0 under Ubuntu 8.10. Other thing I've noticed so far is that the mouse flickers a bit, but other than that it's running near flawless so far. It was an easy install by choosing all of the defaults. I don't have the expansion, so I can't comment on it.

On my Macbook Pro, I'm having a bit more trouble. The game installed just fine, but whenever I try to run the game, it repeatedly asks for the game disc to be inserted, even when it already is.

Also, I haven't been able to install the 1.05 patch yet. In Ubuntu, I don't notice anything happening after running the patch (except for my CD drive spinning up a bit). I have noticed that the game will freeze upon loading after trying to install the patch. Killing and restarting get around that. Trying to install the patch on my Mac spits out a huge error message.

This sounds like a copy protection scheme in action. There are some copy protection schemes which we can properly support on Linux but we can't on Mac OS X. That's because Mac OS X denies us low-level access to the CD/DVD drive as a matter of policy.

I gather from this that there isn't really anything that we can do to make the game work?
