Advocate for Star Trek: Starfleet Command 2: Empires at War

Hi all,

I've just become an advocate for Starfleet Command 2, updated to most recent patch.

Just for everybody's information, I've been successful at installing this game using the following:

Crossover Games 7.1.1 (Mac)
MacBook 2.4 GHZ Intel Duo Core 2, 2GB, X3100 Integrated GPU
Mac OS X 10.5.4

It runs pretty well. However, there is a little bit of mouse lag. I'm not sure if it is because of Crossover Games or because of the weak GPU in my MacBook. Nevertheless, it's great to see this cool game running on the Macintosh!

This is a quick update.

Star Trek: Starfleet Command 2: Empires at War continues to run using:

CrossOver Games 7.1.1 (Mac), using Windows 98 bottle.
MacBook 2.4 GHZ Intel Duo Core 2, 2GB RAM, X3100 Integrated GPU
Mac OS X 10.5.5

What resolution are you running at? Anything above the lowest resolution ends up with a black screen for me. I've applied the 2.0.3.6 patch. Not experiencing any mouse lag so far. Game plays awesome. Imac 2.4 Ghz with ATI 2600Pro and 4 Gigs Ram.

Chuck,

I'm running at 800x600. You're right....Starfleet Command 2 plays great!

Greetings,

I just wanted to give another quick update.

Star Trek: Starfleet Command 2: Empires at War continues to run using:

CrossOver Games 7.1.1 (Mac), using Windows 98 bottle.
MacBook 2.4 GHZ Intel Duo Core 2, 2GB RAM, X3100 Integrated GPU
Mac OS X 10.5.6

How did you apply the patch? I got the patching application to run under Crossover, but it doesn't seem to actually patch anything.

I'm looking at buying an Apple Platform, but I still want to play SFC. If SFC2, Empires at War runs with Codeweavers, then SFC, Orion Pirates should work as well. The SFC Community on Dynaverse.net is working on a fan made version of SFC. We'll see if they get anywhere. I'll post a link to this site in that forum.

Greetings to all:

Here is another quick update.

Star Trek: Starfleet Command 2: Empires at War continues to run using:

CrossOver Games 7.2.1 (Mac), using Windows 98 bottle.
MacBook 2.4 GHZ Intel Duo Core 2, 2GB RAM, X3100 Integrated GPU
Mac OS X 10.5.7

I have been running SFC 1 for a while now. The interesting thing is that while SFC runs great in Crossover 8...it actually fails to run in crossover games 8. I have made fresh bottles using xp and 98 as the base line, and have tested on sandbox user accounts as well....i would love to run SFC 2 but have hade some difficulties in that I have a netbook that I am using, so the hardwre is limited...

Greetings to all:

I've just had a chance to test Starfleet Command 2 again.

Star Trek: Starfleet Command 2: Empires at War continues to run using:

CrossOver Games 7.2.2 (Mac), using Windows 98 bottle.
MacBook 2.4 GHZ Intel Duo Core 2, 2GB RAM, X3100 Integrated GPU
Mac OS X 10.5.8

One thing to note is that a bit of trouble might be encountered at the beginning of the video intro. playback...you have to sit through the entire playback. Sometimes there is a freeze/lockup (before the video), crashing back to the desktop. I don't seem to recall anything like this happening with CrossOver Games 7.2.1, using Mac OS X 10.5.7.

Hi All,

I just wanted to give everybody an updated report on Starfleet Command 2.

Unfortunately, the game is broken and does not run (due to updates to CrossOver Games (Mac), Mac OS 10.6.2, new test system, etc.)

Here is a copy of the email that I submitted to the 'ticket system':

Dear CrossOver Games:

I am an advocate for Star Trek: Starfleet Command 2: Empires at War.

Previously, I have been able to get this game to run on the following system:

CrossOver Games 7.2.2 (Mac), using Windows 98 bottle.
MacBook 2.4 GHZ Intel Duo Core 2, 2GB RAM, X3100 Integrated GPU
Mac OS X 10.5.8 (Leopard)

Recently, I decided to try see if if works on the following configuration:

CrossOver Games 8.1.4 (Mac), using Window 98 bottle.
Mac Mini 2.26 GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 9400
Mac OS X 10.6.2 (Snow Leopard)

However, the game is now BROKEN. The game installs correctly, the intro movie
plays fine, and the CD serial number entry screen appears. After entering the
serial number, the program begins to load up the initial game screen. Then, an
error dialog box appears, saying that there is a serious problem and cannot
continue. After quitting (no choice), program goes back to desktop.

I then tried earlier versions of CrossOver Games (Mac) [and installing Starfleet
Command 2] on the new system to see if anything worked: CrossOver Games (Mac)
7.2.2, 8.0, 8.1, 8.2, 8.3. Unfortunately, nothing worked...either CrossOver
Games did not even run, or if it did, Starfleet Command 2 crashed.

Any suggestions? All help is greatly appreciated and keep up the great work on
CrossOver Games!

Sincerely,

Richard M. Low, advocate for Star Trek: Starfleet Command 2: Empires at War

Hi all,

I just wanted to confirm that SFC 2: Empires at War continues to work with CrossOver Mac 11.2, along with Mac OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion). Unfortunately, there is graphic instability (using 1040 x 760 resolution) in the game, but it is still very playable. However if you use the virtual desktop option (800 x 600 resolution), the game plays very well.

Again, I suggest you submit your rank for this application so that your results display (http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/browse/name/?app_id=4655;details=1).

I assume you have the cdrom version for this and for Orion Pirates? Do you know how to make a tie file? It's a recipe so that CrossOver know how to recognize the cd and install the game based on what you've used to get the game going.
