STO worked fine w/ Crossver 20, now it's unusable with Crossover 21. Environments are pitch black.

Hello,

I've been using Crossover to run STO on my Intel MacBook Pro for roughly a year.

The game ran fine with Crossover 19 and then also with Crossover 20.

But the latest update (Crossover 21) renders all the environments pitch black. The game is unplayable as you pretty much see nothing.

I've reverted to v20 and all is good again...but I wonder if anyone found a workaround for v21.

With Mojave around the corner, I fear that v20 may not work going forward. So if someone (significantly) more tech-savvy than myself has any ideas, it'd be much appreciated.

Cheers!

Change your bottle version to Windows 8.1, enable DXVK backend for DirectX 11, performance enhanced graphics, and performance enhanced sync.

It should work fine.

Thanks for the reply. Last time I tried, activating the "DXVK backend for DirectX 11" creates all kinds of other graphical issues for STO on crossover :/

At this point, I just hope that Crossover 20 will work fine on Monterey. Either that, or maybe v21 will work again on STO with future updates.

I'd rather not go back to bootcamp...

I enabled DXVK on my MacBook Pro M1, and while the game renders, there are graphical glitches like the comments point out - there are (non-Borg) characters walking around with laser beams shooting out of their eyes - I think it's their line of sight, but they show as literally lines in the game. Tried this on Crossover 21 and 20, and seems like it's the same result.

Without DXVK enabled the game is pitch black, so I have to choose between graphical glitches or a black screen. I think I conclude this game is unusable under Crossover at the moment.

Would appreciate a software update from CodeWeavers / Wine. I'd gladly pay for a subscription then.

Hi all,

We have a bug filed for this issue, but no updates on a fix. I recommend trying out CrossOver 22 when it is released next year, as that would be the soonest it would potentially be fixed.

Best,
Meredith

Hi, I installed the game using the default Crossover installer and everything went fine, fortunatelly. Everything seems to be working fine. I'm using Crossover 21.1.0 on Kubuntu Linux 20.04.3 LTS on a notebook with Intel Core i7 and nVidia RTX 2070.
