fullscreen mode error

While I am waiting on my patching and attempt to run STO on CXG 10, I figured I should ask how people have resolved any errors or crashes when using the in-game options to switch from windowed to fullscreen mode. Is anyone else having this problem? I understand there may be another way to set fullscreen mode prior to opening STO itself, but I do not know the procedure. Can someone make a quick list of steps for the laypersons like myself?

Is it done through CXG / wine configuration settings, or something more basic on the Mac itself?

Or is there a safe way to do it in-game?

Paul

There isn't a safe way to switch from windowed to full-screen, in-game. Not that I've seen, anyway. Switching from full-screen to windowed is fairly successful (but the window tends to be fixed in one location for that session), but whenever I've tried switching form windows to full-screen in-game I get a black screen that I have to command+option+esc out of.

What I usually do is run the game in an "emulated virtual desktop", which is a window defined by Crossover (the game still "thinks" it's running in full-screen). To do so, go to Crossover Games' Configure>Manage Bottles menu, highlight your STO bottle, head to Control Panel>Wine configuration>Graphics tab. Click on the "emulate a virtual desktop" box, and set the desired size (i.e. 1024x768 or 1344x1008). Apply, then OK. STO will launch and run entirely within this window that's been defined by Crossover.

If you want to then run full-screen, you'll have to quit STO, go back into wine configuration>graphics and un-check the emulate virtual desktop option.

It should certainly be possible to switch the game into full-screen. I played it that way all the time.

There may be an issue with switching in and out of full-screen while playing (to switch to another app, for example). I haven't tested that.

If you get stuck with a black screen, you shouldn't have to Force Quit (Command-Option-Escape). You can force CrossOver out of full-screen mode using Command-Option-R which is the keyboard shortcut for the Restore Display item of the Window menu.
