patch problems?

My STO was loading up properly earlier today, and now the launcher opens but doesn't seem to patch and transition to "Engage" like it used to. Is there any reason why this would change without me doing anything.....was there a new patch that altered the way the game itself patches, or the way the launcher works?

Confused.

Paul

Same problem here.

Stuck at the patch screen for the loader itself.

In the spitit of troubleshooting, its something network related. I am looking at the network usage of GNOME's System Monitor, and there is a literal ZERO change in the network traffic. The chart doesn't budge (unless firefox does something), and my data transfer rate is under 50b/s when I just stare at it (prolly because of Teamspeak, and I being in an empty channel).

Also, if you could post a link to the ticket, that would be fantastic.

OK, since I am fiending some STO, I decided to create a second acct and try the 10.0RC2 and suck a copy of the bottle into that acct.

I got slightly farther. But still cannot get into the game.

I don't get the launcher updater thingie, and do make it to the login screen. However nothing works there. I can type in my password and click submit, but nothing happens. And if I try to click on the settings tab up top, nothing happens. I do not get any change to the status bar below, and do not see the realm selector either (I am setup for access to Tribble, so that should be an option to pick from). The patching/cancel blue button is blank (still blue but no text in it).

HTH somebody out :P

Thanks,
Andrew.

As a temporary workaround, you can install the MSHTML7 engine into the bottle. Actually, I recommend that you make a copy or archive of your bottle before doing this, so you can eventually go back to working without MSHTML7.

In my testing with MSHTML7, the launcher was pretty slow and erratic to draw, then it flickered like mad during patching, but it did eventually work.

With the 10.0RC2 engine, this is actually very fast. The only issue I can see is that the html renderer causes the patcher to flicker, and the password dots are now squares. Other than that I can't complain, as the game works sofar pretty damn well!

Thanks for the tip!
Andrew.

Just to clarify what I was using. On Sunday morning I had been using Crossover Games 9.1 on a Macbook Pro laptop with OS 10.6.5 and it was running STO smoothly, albeit with slightly diminished graphics quality.

Sunday evening, without making any changes, in or out of game, it stopped loading properly. The launcher window opened, but it no longer read the STO advertisement box, nor auto-filled in the username. Manually entering the username and password brought up the STO newswire, but failed to result in any patching, and never transitioned to "Engage" to allow entry into the game.

After trying this a few times I decided to un-install the game. I also upgraded my Crossover Games to 9.2. Then when I re-installed, it initially ran the patch, transitioned to "Engage" and worked, allowing me into the game. However, settings were off, and I tried to switch to fullscreen mode using the in-game options panel. This resulted in an "error" message and the application quit. Thereafter, attempts to open STO have resulted in a blank (white) launcher window, with the words "Loading. Please Wait" written in the top left. It never moves past this, and the screen remains blank.

I tried un-installing the game and re-installing it twice more to no avail. It seems very strange to me that my computer would run the game fine on Crossover Games 9.1 for about 3 weeks, then suddenly stop working. Upgrading to 9.2 has not corrected it.

Perhaps I have missed some kind of crucial step, or need to manually configure things differently. But I have no idea what or why or how (I'm not really much of a computer guy).

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Paul

The issue is that Cryptic has modified their launcher mechanism, itself, and Crossover Games' tailor-made fit to the old launcher mechanism doesn't fit the new one. We're actively working on fixing this, of course.

As a workaround, please trying installing the Microsoft HTML Rendering Engine 7 into the same bottle as Star Trek online. Before doing so, you might want to archive your current STO bottle so you have a non-MSHTML version on hand for testing when we've released a patch to fix this problem. You'll find MSHTML (full name "Microsoft HTML Rendering Engine 7") in Crossover Games' "Community Support Applications" section, inside the Install Software menu. Select this item, and then click on "will install into a new winxp bottle...". Select your pre-existing STO bottle as the destination, and click install. The installation process will be recognizable as that of Internet Explorer 7 - this is correct, continue through the installation process to its completion, then close the Crossover Install Software menu and launch STO.

At first I had connection troubles with STO even after this MSHTML 7 installation. In a fit of impatience I upgraded to Crossover Games 10 release candidate 4 (CX Games 10 will be released on Thursday), and after some initial slowness the login screen did render, and it's currently patching successfully, albeit with heavy "flickering" as indicated by the above posts.

Please try the MSHTML 7 installation with STO in Crossover Games 9.2. I'll write to you privately and give you beta access so you can test CX Games 10, as well, if 9.2 still isn't going for you.

OK, when I try downloading this MHTML 7 thing into my STO bottle, it produces a pop-up window asking for my "Microsoft XML Parser Setup" Customer Information (User name and Password). I have no idea what that is about. Do I Cancel this and install without it? Or am I supposed to have a User name and password for this?

that's part of the installation. You don't even need to bother filling out name or organization, just proceed through the install.

OK, now I have installed the MSHTML 7 files, but when I try to launch STo the launcher window pops up with the following:

"Content was blocked because it was not signed by a valid security certificate".

have you tried yet with Crossover Games 10? I sent you a link, earlier.

Trying it now, thanks. It is allowing me to open the launcher and run the opening patch. As you warned, it is extremely "flickery", and the patching is extremely slow for some reason (it has taken me about 90-120 minutes and the patch is only 56% complete). I will let you know how it turns out once it is done......

i am also having this issue and am stuck at the "content blocked" screen. where do we download crossover games 10?

As of today, 2011-01-25, we are working on release candidate 5 for Crossover 10. We don't expect that many more changes will be made between today and the final release of Crossover 10 (on 01-27), but we can't say for sure. If we're able to fix the STO launcher issue in time, that would be optimal. Sufficed to say we are fixing this issue as fast as we can, and if that fix requires a "point release" of Crossover Games 10 (i.e. 10.0.1) in the next week that's what we'll do.

If you really don't want to wait until Crossover Games 10 is released on Thursday, please send an email to info@codeweavers.com and we'll modify your account with the necessary permissions. Naturally, you'll need to have a valid license.

Thanks.

I'll be attending MacWorld Thursday-Saturday. Is obtaining the link for Crossover 10 just something to be done online, or will you have a CD to hand out at the show. I too have had the same experience on Monday of trying to startup STO on my MBP running 10.6.6 and CXG 9 and I get nothing but a white window with "please wait, loading" and never advancing. Thanx for any help in advance.

OK, just a quick update. Upgrading to CXG 10, and re-installing STO, and adding MSHTML 7 into the bottle, seems to have fixed the problem. I can load up the game once again. The patching process, however, was extremely slow (took all afternoon). The default screen seems to be a kind of faux full-screen mode -- with wide black margins on the left and right side of the screen. Given the errors I experienced, and subsequent crash, the last time I tried switching to a genuine full screen mode -- I think I might just suffer through a more narrow playing screen. At any rate, thanks for the help walking me through this. It appears that numerous people have experienced a similar problem, so hopefully this thread will benefit others as well. Cheers!

What is the best way to be notified of the patch to Crossover Games that will fix the Star Trek Online laucher problem? I think I'd rather wait for the fix, rather than use the workaround.

Thanks.

You can open a support ticket. Your ticket will be associated with the bug in our bug tracker. When a release is put out that contains the fix for the bug, all such tickets will be notified.

I've modified the .tie file to install MSHTML 7 as a predependency to STO to clear this issue. And if you're experiencing this problem please install MS HTML 7 rendering engine into your STO bottle.

You can do this by opening the Crossover Install Software list, and under Unsupported>Community Supported packages you'll find an entry for Microsoft HTML Rendering Engine 7. Select that and then choose your existing STO bottle and you should be set to go. This issue apparently stems from STO now making their launcher use HTTPS instead of HTTP and it's trying to use Wine libraries that aren't quite up to the challenge yet.

Please use this fix for existing installs of STO. New installs of STO will do this automatically.

This fixed worked for me, flickering and all, after upgrading to 10.0. Thanks for the help.
