STO + CXGames 9.0 + Ubuntu Lucid x86_64

I have been playing quite nicely on CXGames 9 with Ubuntu Lucid x86_64 since version 9 came out. Now today after I login and the patching starts, I get a window stating "Oops! Your Cryptic Application has crashed...." etc.

Launcher Version: CL_2010_03_22_11_32

Anyone else gotten this?

Also noticed that if I click on any of "Account", "Forums", "Support", "Manual" or "Options" in the launcher, it crashes as well.

I just tested and was able to get into the game, after successful patching (as usual). Mind you, I'm running CrossOver Games 9 on a Mac running Mac OS X 10.6.3. Same launcher version, though.

I am aware of the problem with the buttons along the top of the launcher/patcher, which is a shame since I think one of those leads to a tool for testing your game files.

Well, that was a first for myself. The /games partition filesystem was shown by mount to be rw but once I tried writing there anything, I got a complaint that I don't have permission to write anything there.

It was also somehow stuck so that I could not unmount it until I rebooted the system. Now I'm fully able to login and all those links work too. That was interesting. :)

Wonder how soon btrfs is more stable than ext4... ;)

I'm having the same issue with this version (CL_2010_03_22_11_32.) I will open a support ticket to investigate, but I'm trying this on a 10.04 x86_64 system with Intel chipset. I installed from retail DVD, successfully patched.. I am prompted about an unidentified/unsupported video card - and can proceed with lowered or default settings. Either option, the game begins to load - passes the Cryptic and Atari logos.. then on the ST emblem, just pauses and sits. It's a shame too - I've never played, and really want in! :)

Jason, your issue may be with the Intel graphics chipset and/or its Linux drivers. I'm not well-versed in the Linux side of things, but the impression I get from our 3D graphics experts is that the Intel drivers are really problematic.

Have you had luck with other 3D-graphics-intensive programs?

Hi Ken, I suspect you might be right. I've not tried any 3D-intensive programs other than basic testing with glxgears etc. I'm going to rip an nvidia card out of another system here and give it a go this weekend. I've read that the chipset that I have (G45) seems to be satisfactory under windows for STO, but perhaps the edition of the Intel driver that comes in Lucid won't suffice.

EDIT: confirmed working with nvidia 8300 card. It kept crashing when trying to go to fullscreen (1920x1080) mode. I had to use the top of setting a virtual desktop of this size in winecfg. Thanks guys.
