Screen Resolution Changing Bug??

I have been trying to figure out which I should use, Crossover Games or the Unofficial Mac Version Wineskin hosted on the STO forums. So far, I have had much better success with the UMV there then this version.

I install using the CrossTie or whatever, and then after an insanely long load screen, I go to change my screen resolution to something sensible instead of the default.

The screen flickers a few times, and the game screen shrinks leaving me with a huge nice white area in the lower and right sides of the screen. UI element beeps act like it's full screen but the buttons are crammed to mid screen where they aren't actually clickable.

I have to Command Q out of the game, and then changing resolution again only puts me back to square one.

The resolution I am trying to use is 1440x900.

It lets me use the size smaller, for the "Desktop" which shows me the menu bar, but going full 1440x900 just fails miserably. Its related to this software, because the other FREE version handles this quite elegantly.

Any ideas? I want to use this because I am hoping for more support and compatibility but will use the other better working wineskin until this issue is fixed.

Thanks.

I stand corrected, changing the screen resolution to ANYTHING completely messes the resolution up.
Guess I got a happy accident by changing it once and should have just left it as is.

Unplayable at all.

Running 10.7.2 on a 2009 15" MBP 2.53GHz Processor with 9400M GFx Processor.

Switching screen resolutions isn't completely flawless with STO in Crossover Games, though with your hardware I think you're probably going to be more susceptible to glitchy behavior than a mac with a nicer, dedicated GPU (as opposed to an onboard chip with software rendering, like the 9400).

On my own machine (iMac with OS X 10.7, NVIDIA GTS 250), scaling down the resolution is fairly painless (for example, moving from my normal 1920x1200 down to 1344 x 840), but when scaling up I always end up a mouse position that's slightly off, and black areas at the top and bottom of the screen. When I re-start STO, everything's fine (and back in 1920x1200).

Getting to your larger question, there are a couple of areas where the wineskin STO client has an edge on us (specific to STO) - the first is that since that particular build is concerned with STO, only, it can be more quickly fixed and adapted to new changes in the game. Here at Codeweavers we're testing many dozens of applications all the time, and sometimes it'll be a couple of weeks before we make another pass at STO (and, when we discover problems, it might be more time before the appropriate developer has the bandwidth to deal with it). It's an example of the benefit of specialization over a "broad net" approach. The other area is that the underlying wine code in Crossover Games 10.x is 1.3.9, which is fairly old at this point. Crossover 11 will feature a much newer wine update and has many, many improvements in it, but our functional support for STO has stagnated a bit over the past several months (as you're seeing).

The advantage to CX Games is the "broad net approach" - if multiple games that you wish to run are compatible with CX Games, then we still might be a good fit for you (even if you decide to run STO in the wineskin client for the time being), but if it's just STO that you're after, it sounds like your personal experience between the two clients is pretty conclusive.
