DS9: The Fallen Functional in Linux

I was able to successfully install DS9: The Fallen in a Win98 bottle on the following machine:

Soyo SY-7ISA+ Intel i815 Motherboard
Intel Pentium III 866 MHz Processor
512 MB SDRAM
PNY Verto GeForce FX 5200 AGP 8x 256 MB DDR
Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 PCI Sound Card (SB0220)
Samsung CD-RW/DVD Drive Model: TS-H492A/RSWN
Dual Boot openSUSE Linux 10.3/Windows XP Pro SP3
CodeWeavers CrossOver Games for Linux Version 7.1.2

I used the autorun method to install the game with no difficulties.

I played part of the way through the Sisko training mission, and I haven't noticed anything that doesn't work. I did have to use a 1024x768 virtual desktop, and even then the game insists on playing in a window. I also had to create a Hide button on the Linux toolbar at the bottom of the screen and make sure it slides out of the way before starting the game so I can see the entire window. Both the software and OpenGL renderers work, and the game works at all of the resolutions I tried to use. Performance seems to be quite good.

I had no problem applying the retail patch (Patch112100-a.zip) and the English Mini Code Patch (DS9 The Fallen - Exe and Joystick Patch.exe).

I just tried the game on Crossover Games Mac 7.2 having had great success with other titles and seeing it rated Platinum at WineHQ. Although it installs OK it fails to launch for me - the icon stays in the dock but no windows are drawn. I have to quit it via the dock icon. The patch 112100 install also fails for me "no file found" - even when running from the same folder.

I tried different bottles and changing the managed windows setting as mentioned at winehq with no luck. As a test I tried downloading the demo and that got further - it gave an error in DX mode but ran in software mode part screen - played the intro movie and got to the menu. At that point the mouse control was strange - it kept jumping round the screen so I couldn't change options with it.

OK after more fiddling I got the full version working in Crossover Games 7.2.1 in OS X. I did a full install into a WinXP bottle then copied the remaining items from the CD to the game folder. The game set up gave the option of Direct3D or software rendering - only software worked (800 x 600). The game ran in the top left corner of the screen and the mouse won't work correctly. I edited the ini file to make it start up in windowed mode - I played through the training and started a couple of missions OK. I might try seeing if I can get it working in OpenGL and somehow bump up the resolution - 1680 x 1050 would be nice.
