The CrossOver crosstie installer says this will only work with the GOG version of the game. I only have the Steam version of the game, so I'm not sure how to try installing that. Is it supported?

Try installing Steam in a bottle and then tell it to download the game. Might just work fine. If it does, let me know and I will modify the crosstie.
John and I got it working by applying the changes as described at WineHQ, installing directx 9, setting d3d11 and d3dx11_42 to Native and running xrEngine.exe via the Run command.

I did this, but ran into errors on Launch. As Eve said just now, we got it to work with a few extra steps. Mouse & Keyboard work fine, I was able to crank the graphic options and run around fine. :)
