Spotify crashes each time on CrossOver and Wine

I have installed Spotify on Wine. Spotify login works well. After login the main Spotify window appears, I hear the usual Spotify sound. Then a Facebook dialog appears and Spotify crashes immediately with an error message "The program spotify.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close."

I have tried Wine 1.2.x and 1.3.29. No difference.

I have installed Spotify on CrossOver into a WinXP bottle. Same effect. Each time login works well, but after Facebook dialog appears the Spotify crashes.

OS: Linux Mint, Gnome, Kernel 2.6.38-8, 32 bit.

Since login works and "New Releases" is displayed, it's not a network problem.
Since I hear the sound after login, it seems to be not a sound config problem.
The same Spotify install on the same PC works well on Windows. So it's not a hardware problem.

It seems to be a CrossOver and a Wine problem. I was hoping CrossOver is better than Wine, that's why decided to evaluate it. Unfortunately CrossOver is as bad as Wine.

How did you install Spotify on Crossover? Did you use the crosstie?

I've been using spotify on the PC without issue. Oh and another important question, is Spotify available in your country?

CrossOver is built on wine. Codeweavers works on the wine trunk first then incorporates it into Crossover.

Note: there is a Linux version of the spotify client (but only for paid accounts). You can try that too.

I'm having the same problem as the original poster. Log in works okay, a window about Facebook timeline comes up, then it crashes. No I didn't install using CrossTie because CrossTie is not available for this app.

I installed by just doing a "run windows command" and pointing it to the spotify installer.

I'm using CX Pro 10.1 under Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. I've tried variations on the sound driver, including the OSS with no accel, and Alsa with and without acceleration.

Do you have spotify linked with facebook? I don't and that may be the difference.

Sorry about the CrossTie, since I was the one writing it! I'll finish it when I have time.

Now does spotify work for you outside of linux? Have you tried it on another system?

Next post I'll publish what's in my bottle.

Please note that there is a Linux version too, you can try that one.

Confirmed linking to Facebook will crash the app. Even attempting to link them will crash it.

I'd suggest you start with a brand new bottle and if you're account is already linked to Facebook see if you can make it work with a new account that isn't linked.

Checked bottle and only thing I installed was Spotify.

Well, unfortunately, you can't make a Spotify account without Facebook:

They recently changed it so that you must have a Facebook account. Lots of people are BLAZING MAD about it too.

Oh Brother, that's an issue... I'll put a log of what my bottle does when I try to open the facebook tab and we might find out interesting stuff.
In the mean time, if you have a paid account try the Linux client.

I can't seem to get the issue to occur without actually linking my account to spotify. Can someone try and get a log? (don't post it here do a public drop box or something).

The linux client is pretty good... but since it doesn't have the ability to do Ads, you have to have a paid account to use it. My 48-hour trial will end very soon...
