Hi there,
I just downloaded and installed the Crossover Games trial, I'm an avid gamer who switched to Ubuntu 8.10 after her Vista laptop died of death and wouldn't re-boot (read: My tech knowledge is limited!).
I've now finished installing spore but every time I try to run it, I encounter this error message:

"The game can not start
There seems to be a problem contacting the license server. Ensure your
internet connection is active and try again in a few minutes."

I tried unintalling, and reinstalling into a new bottle but still no joy. My internet definately is working! :p
Can anyone shed any light on this issue?

Hmm, that's a bit of a quandary. We occasionally provide "unsupported releases" of CrossOver Games to our customers. The most recent one is version 7.1.2, which is more current than the trial we offer which is 7.1.1. One of the main points of version 7.1.2 is support for Spore.

I'll ask our web admin to put a copy of 7.1.2 somewhere for you to download and then post here about it. It will still be a trial, of course.

I have a similar issue with Spore on Ubuntu Hardy. The game starts saying that it can't access the internet,
obviously I have a working internet connection.

Could you post the beta update for deb i386?
