Steam expects a certain registry key to be set. Unfortunately, it usually depends on a per title basis so not easy to predict. But it can be deduced from the .vdf file which controls the way Steam installs this game, or from the .vdf file which controls the way a specific runtime is installed (some older titles bundle runtimes, newer titles add one or multiple depots each containing one required runtime )
