Downloaded Space Empires IV Deluxe from Direct2Drive. It installed as expected but crashed when run
Hi,
...I have the gamersgate release of this, and, it was being
a touch problematic (with sound) in linux ; I think I stuck it
on the back-burner, expectant of sound improvements in the next
crossover release (newer winecore)....
...however, what works for one release should work for another,
so I can spark MacOS up on the iMac and have a look at it for
you (seems I never got around to doing that =)...
...I have a few questions for you which I need you to answer...
*which version of MacOS are you using?
*what videocard/chipset does your Mac have?
*if you're not running CXG-10.2.1 please update..
*the direct2drive release of this title, what patch-level is it?
With the gamersgate release, a separate download of the 1.95 update
patch is available, hence my question....
...I'll post back here as I get to it...
Cheers!
Update:
....okay, the gamersgate release + patch-1.95 works on the iMac
here, which is a 11,2 model w/ HD5670 video running MasOS 10.7.2
and CXG-10.2.1 .... this is what worked for me...
*create new winxp bottle ... give it a name ..
*Crossover menu -> Configure -> Manage Bottles ; highlight the
bottle created above -> Control Panel -> launch the Wine Configuration
item -> Graphics tab ; tick the 'emulated virtual desktop' checkbox,
and underneath that specify the desktop size to be 1024x768 -> click
Apply -> OK to exit winecfg...
now... do this, to work around a issue with the above step...

next, install the 'Directx9' target (not 'modern') into the same
bottle - there is a target for this package in the 'Runtime Support
Components' area of the cxinstaller GUI...
finally, install the game (and if required the 1.95 update patch).
Game seemed to be running fine with the limited amount of playtime.
Note - I did not check multiplayer mode, but let me know if it's broken...
Cheers!
ps: the need for emulated virtual desktop may be video card/chipset
related or a MacOS thing -- regardless, the game was not prepared
to do anything properly without it enabled (which if iirc is the case
on the linux rig as well...
