Soft-Denchi has a limited number of activations, so paying for games encumbered by it is a bad idea if you want to maintain access to the game indefinitely—assuming it even worked through Wine/CrossOver in the first place (it doesn't). What I do is avoid these titles altogether.
The easiest way to tell if a game is encumbered by Soft-Denchi on different stores is:
- On DMM, scroll down to the end of the store page but before the reviews, and you might see a strip of text saying "本商品を利用するためには、最新版のソフト電池ランタイムが必要です". Also, the specs might say something like "ID認証形式". The absence of this warning does not mean that the game is DRM-free.
- On DLsite, there will be a warning in a green box saying:
この作品は「ソフト電池」の作品です。
ご購入前に必ず [ ソフト電池について ] をご覧の上、動作確認をしてください。
If there is no green box warning on DLsite, the game is DRM-free. I confirmed this with DLsite support personally.
You can also have a look at https://vndb.org/r/drm, which is a new community-based tagging system on VNDB for tagging visual novels encumbered by DRM. Seiya-Saiga.com also notes whether games are playable ディスクレス. Not as detailed as VNDB, but still worthwhile looking at for physical games.
