MDAC 2.8 failed to install

Hi,

I want to install administration software Snelstart (www.snelstart.nl).
It's an unsupported application, so I selected this and Crossover stated that there should be software downloaded and installed first; Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) version 2.8.

It downloaded and proceeded to installing, but the install failed. It says that "the program mdacsafe.exe encountered a serious problem and had to shut down. This could be caused by a problem in the program or a fault in Wine" (or something like that, I had to translate from Dutch).

When I click "proceed" it goes on with the installation (?) and when it's finished it says: Setup is complete. Setup has completed successfully. (??)

Then it proceeds to install Snelstart, which then installs without a problem.

When I try to run Snelstart I get a runtime error: '-2147221166 (80040152) Automation error.

What can I do to try to install that MDAC software so Snelstart could (maybe) work?

I'm on a Macbook Pro, Lion

this is probably a case of the mdac installer getting corrupted during the download process.

Try blowing away Crossover's Installer cache by deleting the contents of this file:

/(home)/Library/Application Support/CrossOver/Installers

(on Lion go to Finder's "Go" menu and hold down the "option" key to see "Library")

and then head to Crossover's Configure>Manage Bottles menu. Use the "-" key to delete the bottle used in your earlier attempt, and try again. This will force Crossover to re-download MDAC 2.8 and use a new installer environment, which should get you past this problem, at least.

I tried this on the macbook white of my husband, and the same thing happened. So could it still be the faulty download?
I'll try your suggestion this monday when my head is clear and my kids are @ daycare. :) Thanks in advance for your effort!

I have a present for you. Snel Start seems to run fine in CrossOver, but some of the errors it gives during installation don't make a clear cut case for why it's install is not working well. I researched those errors and made an automatic installer for you.

It is here:

http://www.codeweavers.com/bin/c4p/6933

This will download a pre-done recipe to install Snel Start on your Mac, just choose to open it with CrossOver (you'll need/want CrossOver 10.1). It will add quite a few different components before installing Snel Start; all of these are needed to get the application running.

If you have any trouble with it, let us know.

Cheers!
