Reasons I gave this game a silver rating

Hi all,

Just tested this game, and was pleasantly surprised.

Installation: Worked well, no show-stopping issues (For some reason, it took a while for the second disk to mount in Linux, but I guess that may not be very relevant. I'm not sure).

Gameplay: At first, it did work, but with graphical glitches, such as only parts of cars appearing. I turned down/off a lot of settings (resolution, color depth, eye candy effects, etc), but they didn't fix the issue. I then switched the in-game graphics setting from "Hardware" to "Software" and that pretty much did the trick! 😊. I also tried turning up the other settings to how I wanted them, and they seemed to work without any big problems.

Overall, this game seems to run very well as long as you have the rendering in "Software".

Hibba.

Edit: Made a typo above, oops. And, I realized I forgot to add a few things.

The game I used was the CD version. I haven't tested the Steam version.

I'm currently running Gentoo 64-bit (kernel 2.6.34-gentoo-r12) and Crossover Games Linux 9.2.0.

Edit again, sorry. After playing further, I have found that the game randomly quits at times. Because of this, I have adjusted my rank to "Silver" instead of "Gold." Sorry for any inconvenience I have caused.

i installed it with the CD too on my Mac.. but when i start the game.. nothing appears.. the only thing i get is an Wine Error.. i got the Crossover Games 9.2.0 Mac i changed the Bottel from Win 2000 to Win Xp and i get the same result

Hi,

The CD release of this title uses the SafeDisc (v2) disc based DRM
copy protection system. This works in linux (most of the time) if
the CD/DVD reader supports DAO RAW + scsi sub-channel data. This DRM
system will not work on the Mac currently, due to the design of the
OSX scsi driver..see the following page for more information..;

Unfortunately speaking, the Distributor Comparison Table may had misled
you, primarily due to the fact the situation with the disc based DRM
and Mac OSX was unknown until you reported it! Sorry about that ;*/
I've updated the table accordingly...

Cheers!

ps: if you were misled into buying the CD due to information here,
please let me know...

well this means i need [to legally circumvent the DRM] or? otherwise i can't play or am i wrong

[sorry for edits --admin]

okay... my english is not the best that was the point for me to understand the text from ur link ^^ it was difficult

Hi again,

@xX Orion Xx -- look at The Fine Print: that appears at the bottom
of the page when posting threads - the second point reads "Please refrain
from the mention of DRM circumvention, such as 'no-cd patches'." I do know
you're only trying to help, but, the Codeweavers business/website is bound
by US law, and as such the following applies;

Please edit/delete your above posts to comply with legal obligations we
all have to abide by 'around here' (if you don't, one of the Ninjas will
see it and possibly nuke the posts anyway B)

Cheers!

ps: glad to hear you had a win ;)

This isn't a issue relevant to linux, it's know by the creators of the game, there are some bugs in it, which cause it to just quit the game (at random times), this also occurs on windows.

Personally i love the game, and how it runs with crossover :)
But thanks for your review :)

I actually just went and got this game thinking that I could use crossover to play it, but to no avail, is there anything that I can do to play the game on my MAC

I'm sorry, but I'm afraid that the install CD(s) contains digital rights management software that is not compatible with Mac.

Or did you mean that you bought the Steam version and are having troubles with it?

Hibba.
