Yes, I just tried and in 16.0.0 on Ubuntu 16.10 I am unable to install, with the installer giving a similar error:

Just tried 16.1.0 and it similarly will not install for me. Backtrace here:

For me, it installs with an error message, but Crossover says it installed correctly. Then when I try to run it, I get the same error as Jurgen Botz.
Hello.
So not sure which version everybody is using. Here are some instructions that I used and was able to get everything working.
Before I do that, I want to note: installing the GOG version with no dependencies installed in WINE VERSION 1.6.2 (the default version installed in Ubuntu 16.04 LTS) JUST WORKS (WITH ALL MOVIES...). Not sure why Crossover with more dependencies works less than that.
That said, getting it to work in CROSSOVER is great for me for bottle management, since most of my games are installed in one CX bottle or another.
1) I created a Windows 7 bottle.
2) Install GDI (Platform SDK Redistributable: GDI+). I then installed Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 (9.0) Redistributable.
3) Install "UNLISTED APP" and selected file (the GOG - SMAC installer 2.02..23). It installed without errors. BUT IT WILL CRASH IF YOU START IT.
4) COPY THE FOLLOWING TEXT into "Alpha Centauri.Ini" (found in C:\GOG Games\Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri in the bottle you created). Save and exit
5) (OPTIONAL) --> Set the virtual desktop to 1024x768
6) RUN AND ENJOY!! Let me know if you have any issues!!

EDIT: ADDED CODE TAGS TO .ini file contents
FYI: I put the entire .ini file because sometimes when I installed (in something other than a WIndows 7 bottle) the .ini file was only partially generated... So, some of those lines are not necessary... probably the "DisableOpeningMovie=1" is the main one that matters. This game may crash when you try to play secret project movies.... if somebody can post the ini line for disabling those, that would be appreciated.
Actually, you can disable the movies from the settings menu.

FROM THE ABOVE LINK:
If the movies are causing issues:
Ensure the following setting is under [Alpha Centauri] in .ini file and also disable secret project movies in Audio / Visual preferences
[Alpha Centauri]
DisableOpeningMovie=0
EDIT: ADDED LINK AND INSTRUCTIONS
Just tested SMAC in Crossover 17 beta 3, and it worked flawlessly.
