Linux crash in CXG 10.00

Hello,

While attempting to create a character in IMAGINE, I crash out at character creation when trying to write a name for my character. The error is:

Error

(1.439) An error has occurred (10001)[Drt[8]][19,88,14]. Quitting Shin Megami Tensei: IMAGINE.

OK

..

Of note: the Akamai installer that CXG originally tried to use (which was not a full 1.7GB exe but a downloader) did not work, so I downloaded the full client separately and installed that in the same bottle SMT:I would've normally installed into.

uname -a: Linux jien 2.6.35-25-generic #44-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jan 21 17:40:48 UTC 2011 i686 GNU/Linux
Running a Dell Vostro 1500 w/2GB RAM on an Intel Core 2 Duo T7250 @ 2.0Ghz, Ubuntu 10.10 base (upgraded to 11.04). Graphics card nVidia GeForce 8600M GS (256MB). Using Crossover Games 10.00.

Also of note: unlike normal character creation, a character model does not appear on the right side to show me what changes I've made thus far. This gives me the impression that it isn't properly reading some files. (The GUI works perfectly, otherwise.)

I have only encountered Windows users with the Error 10001.
Error 10001 is a graphical error (as explained in this thread).
I run on NVidia GeForce 6600. Then again there are differences (even though your graphics card presumably is better than what I have) so there's no telling if yours will work.

I have to ask though, have you installed the proprietary NVidia graphics drivers?
If so, do try to run a Full Check using ImagineUpdate.exe and see if anything changes. It is possible that some graphic data is corrupted, hence fails to load and crashes the engine.

If that fails I suggest you install it into a new clean bottle.

Oh yeah, as a sidenote. Ubuntu 11.04 is as you know pre-release software. That may possibly be contributing to the problem.

Yeah, I figure maybe the client I downloaded is corrupted. Unfortunately the Akamai downloader breaks a lot. Well, I'll just try again. :)

I haven't actually tested this on the final release version of CXG10 come to think of.
I shall do so later on as currently I'm somewhat busy with stuff.

I'll report back when I've tested it further!

Also I'm not sure if I've linked this already, but instead of the Akamai downloader (which tends to be wonky at times even on Windows) you can use the GamersHell mirror.
It used to be listed as a trusted mirror under downloads, but it was removed as the downloader got updated, sadly.
Luckily the files are still updated ^_~

I'm in the process of downloading the game again, now.

Redownloaded, completely reinstalled, ran the full check and everything is good. I am using proprietary nVidia drivers on my distro.

I took a screenshot to show what it looks like -- it still doesn't work.

Come t think of that error is very similar to what you get when you run megaten on wine without applying a vertex shaded patch. Characters do not render properly. I do recall a changelog whereas it did red that smt was fixed again, but it appears to still be broken

So maybe it was fixed at some point and then it broke? How can we get a ticket put up to have that fixed? I'd love to play this...

EDIT: Funny stuff. I disabled vertex shader support in the Wine config. Now I don't crash out, but the game is just a black screen with the UI laid on top of it. 😅

EDIT2: I submitted a ticket. http://www.codeweavers.com/support/tickets/browse/?ticket_id=834044;layout=user_tickets;sort[status]=ASC
