Working good in CXG 8.1.4/9.0 and linux -- Steam version

Shadowgrounds installs correctly via the Steam GUI interface, however
there are issues with video replay that need to be worked around to get
this title to run. Actual gameplay is unaffected by this, but the
following game features are problematic and do not work...(yet).. ;

intro video
animated menu videos
*cutscene videos

The game uses Windows Media Player components for the video replay -
regardless of the fact the video replay doesn't work, the game itself
will not start unless the following dll files are available ;

WMVCORE.DLL
WMASF.DLL

Search for these files on the 'net and/or install WMP 9 or WMP 10 into
a separate bottle and copy the above dll files into the following location;

~/.cxgames/[bottle_name]/drive_c/Program Files/Steam/steamapps/common/shadowgrounds

Note: They must be WMP 9 or 10 dll's.

The Steam installation of this title includes a setup program to configure
the game itself -- this program does not expose all the possible config
file options. This file is located (linux path shown) here ;

~/.cxgames/[bottle_name]/drive_c/Program Files/Steam/steamapps/common/shadowgrounds/Config/options.txt

Open the options.txt file in a plain text editor -- most of the config options
are fairly self explanatory, but be sure you edit the following lines as shown
or things tend to go wrong ;

Video
{
   high_quality_video = 0
   menu_logo_video_enabled = 0
   menu_video_enabled = 0
   video_enabled = 0
}

This title can see and use gamepad devices, but the device you wish to use must
be the first gamepad/joystick device...ie; in linux. /dev/js0 -- tested with a
Logitech digital gamepad & xbox 360 controller (xpad), both working well.

Gets a silver but nothing more until the video portions can be made to run. The
game itself runs at near gold medal standard.

Cheers!

Hi,

Short of downloading dll's from random sites, and hoping they will work, I am unable to find a WMP 10 to download, the Microsoft site wants some sort of verification key? Do you have a link to a good set of .dlls? Thanks!

Hi,

    If memory serves, I would have used Crossover Pro/Std (not Games) to grab

the dll files, by installing windows media player 9 (from the 'community supported
applications' group) into Crossover, and then copying the required dll files into
the Crossover Games environment/bottle. That gives you nice legit/clean sources for
these dlls. You can download/use the demo version of Crossover Standard to do this 8)

Cheers!

Thank you!

As I mentioned in the Pound of Ground thread I just made, I installed WMP 9 into my Xp bottle via this link:
http://download.cnet.com/Windows-Media-Player-Windows-XP/3000-2139_4-10180881.html

That fixed all problems I had with this game, but I have a new one, maybe....

The other game I installed that uses WMP as well as this one have weird acting mouse behavior, this one fires ok, but does not look around at all, so I will try to reboot to see if that is the problem, I've been doing a lot of testing today!
