Graphical glitches...

I see in the "looks much better" thread that there's something I can do in the registry to alter the graphics mode - but my glitches (shown in a soon-to-appear screenshot) are with a default XP bottle. Is there a thread discussing good modes to switch to, and how to change the registry to set them?

What a great game - They're missing a bet somehow - my 9-year-old daughter says the DS version of Settlers 2 is the "best game ever." Why is it so obscure & hard to find in the US?

Not the same version, but just FYI sort of thing (seeing as you said it was hard to find);

Cheers

Yes! GOG rules! I own two copies of Settlers 2, but can run neither (MacOS version is OS 9, 68K only, PC version crippled by DRM), so I was happy to be able to buy a "futureproof" version of this wonderful game. I only wish games like "Settlers: Awakening of Cultures" would be translated into English and released beyond German borders. Sigh.

They linked to our website a while ago, so I can return the favor and post their website at least in this thread 😊

Yes, I love these hobby Settlers hackers. In another life I'd join them. :)

It seems that Clocknova has been able to get this working at Gold level (I'm assuming that's without graphical glitches)...I searched the Wine forums, and found some registry settings to try, but it didn't work. Is there an FAQ about 3D glitches and registry settings to try to improve compatibility?

Well yes, sort of....you can search the ticket system/forums for clues, but then
the more specific question becomes what OS/platform/videocard you're actually using

  • with graphics stuff, we need this info to point you in the right direction...

I'm running on a MacBook Pro, OS X 10.6.1 with NVidia GeForce 9400M (switchable to 9600M GT), CrossOver Games 8.0.0.

Thanks!

Experimenting further with application-settings, I see that when Settlers 2's detail settings is set to "Low", the glitches go away (though of course the graphics are quite coarse at that setting). If that's the work-around, so be-it, but it seems "so close" in the higher detail modes, and it seems that user.reg might be tweakable for better results, just not sure what to put in there.

Understand that I run linux, and can point you towards clues -- also, when
you describe 'graphical glitches', that probably doesn't tell us enough...
ie; exactly what graphical glitches are you seeing, and how do they manifest
themselves....

Further here, I -think- I saw one of the codeweavers devs (Stefan) post a
comment saying there were a few issues with snow leopard, which they hope
to solve in an upcoming crossover-games release - if the problem you're
seeing is related to one of these issues, then probably all you can do is
sit and wait for the new releases...

Of course, feel free to submit a support ticket on the graphical issues you
are seeing -- it is after all the 'official' support system here. Alternately,
you can email info@codeweavers.com describing the problem, and someone will
get back to you ASAP...

Regarding clues or things to try, (and this may be arduous), you can have a
read through this lot related to Mac OSX 10.6.x issues...

Hope this helps!

Thanks! I'll check out that page. In the meantime, the "zoomed in" view on the Screenshots tab of this application shows the glitches pretty well.

Ahh yes....the xenomorph happening mid screen?....not seen anything
quite like that, but it does kind of remind of the graphical glitches
in another title....3 things...

  1. do you have directx runtime installed into the same bottle?

  2. did you submit =both= those screenshots? If so, you forgot to
tick the 'Mac' box on the first submission, resulting in a Mac
screenshot with a linux title -- you should be able to delete
that and resubmit the screenshot with the Mac tickbox selected...

  3. typically speaking, we don't like to see screenshots of programs
behaving badly under crossover -- it can give people the wrong kind
of impression about crossover's capabilities/compatibilities. No big
deal here, because at least it illustrates exactly what's going on,
however it should be deleted....or better still, submit a support
ticket on the issue and attached the glitched screenshot to that ticket....

Perhaps one of our uber-intuitive ninjas will spot this thread, and
move the image into a bug instead (this has happened before ;)

Edit: Although not actually 'my kind of game', I am downloading the
demo now to have a looksee how linux is handling it, and/if the graphics
issues are still evident in linux as well ;)

Edit: The demo seemingly works fine in linux with COG-8.0, with no graphics
issues as yet noticed - I will however play-out the 'demo time limit' over the
next 'x' days and keep an eye open for any weirdities or xenomorphs manifesting themselves..

Hello,
I just managed to install S2 with CO 8.0 on Mac 10.5.8.
It runs even faster than via bootcamp!!!
However, there is only ONE more problem before I can really play with it. All the settlers are INVISIBLE!!! I can see their shadows and what they are carrying but not them.
I posted a screenshot of it.

Anyone has a suggestion?

Have you tried tweaking the rendering mode options? What, if any, tweaks did you use to get it going in the first place?

...I don't really know how to tweak the rendering options... any pointers to suggest?

To make it work, I just erased the bottle and made a new one, it worked that way. Maybe it was because I started with v7.2 then used 8.0...

I'm almost there! :))

PS: I also don't really understand why it would help to install direct X into the bottle?

Im trying to get Settlers 2 10 year edition to work also. I also had the white screen problem, but installing directx helped with that. Now i get to a screen where i have to press a start button, but clicking on it does nothing any suggestions?

Im running Mac OS X 10.6.3 on a macbook pro(newest edition) and latest version of Crossover Games.

Sometimes games build in DRM can prevent them from being ran on CX.
I'm not suggestion that you should violate any law in order to get your game up and running.

You could try to circumvent the DRM in order to make a game run.

I'm not sure doing this is violation of neither Danish(Assuming this based on your name) nor American law but you should check this out prior.
