I haven't played for very long, but I can't find anything wrong with this game so far. I couldn't get the original Setlers 2 to work, but then I found out about this remake and haven't looked back. I loved this game a decade ago and I still love it now.
The original game is a DOS game. Although CrossOver has some infrastructure to run DOS apps, those apps are not its main target and most complex apps do not work. I recommend to use something like dosemu or dosbox for the original Settlers 2.
The DOS infrastructure is mostly for installer apps that start with 16 bit real mode code to see if Windows is running, and then continue using Windows 3.1 or even 32 bit Windows code.
Using dosbox (see in applist http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/browse/name/?app_id=5949), this game runs flawless too.
