The following was carried out on a CentOS 4.2 (RHEL 4.2 Clone), which uses an XOrg based X Server rather than the older XFree86 used in CentOS 3 (and RHEL 3) and earlier. The instructions below may appear onerous, but that is because they are in quite a high level of detail. Print it out, and tick off each step as you go, and you should find it very easy to follow. Let me know if you have any problems with it.
Start from scratch with Win98 bottle
- Applications->Crossover->Configuration
- Click 'Manage Bottles' tab.
- Click 'Create new Bottle'. Bottle Name "sage98", and create from template "win98".
- Click on newly created bottle, and click 'Make default' button.
IE6 must be installed before Sage Line 50 can be installed. It is provided on the v11 CD
- cd IE6
- /opt/cxoffice/bin/wine ie6setup.exe
- Accept agreement and click Next.
- Click Next, and install begins.
- Restart Computer. Click Finish, and the reboot is simulated.
You can now install Sage Line 50 v11
- cd ../Line50/Disk1/
- /opt/cxoffice/bin/wine Setup.exe
- Accept Software Licence Agreement by clicking Next.
- Express install.
- Accept default settings by clicking Next.
- Click Finish to get a simulated restart to occur.
An icon appears on the desktop to start Sage Line 50
If you try to install this into the Win2000, or WinXP bottle, then you will get errors such as:
Unable to launch eBanking [OK]
Unable to launch MIS setup [OK]
Severe PDF Generator setup [OK]
Unable to launch MDAC 2.6 setup [OK]
Unable to launch the jet 4.0 setup [OK]
during the Sage Line 50 install.
Problems found so far:
-
Mouse clicks do not always work on some of the dialogs. You can circumvent this by using arrow keys, tab (and shift tab), and return to select the buttons concerned.
-
Task Manager 'freezes' the program. Solution - don't use task manager.
-
A number of issues with the ability to select fine sub sets of the data for reindexing. Solution is to merely reindex everything which just takes a little extra time. Also worth noting that the reindexing selecions have problems with mouse selection, and you will need to use the arrow/tab/enter keys to select as required.
-
The Internet Explorer icon on the desktop starts IE ok, but quits unexpectedly. Solution - Use Firefox or other application for webbrowsing. There may be more details relating to this problem under the Internet Explorer application information in the compatability database.
-
May be a problem with transaction email, although the fault appears to be with Outlook 2003. Still to test with Outlook 2000, which may solve the problem?
Overall, using the above instructions possibly qualifies this application as a bronze or silver http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/medals
with the exception that CodeWeavers don't officially test or support it. This means that strictly speaking according to the given guidelines this application should only get an honourable mention as the CodeWeavers support is missing. However, if you don't mind using the keyboard occassionally, then the majority of the application works.
Proposed future experimentation is to find out why the application doesn't work in a Win2000 or WinXP bottle, and also to try to understand the problems with the Task Manager.
