Dose anyone have this game running?

I can't get mine to load the login screen. I press play game, then all I can see is the mouse and I can hear the music. I have an nvidia 9800, so I pretty sure it should be working.

Brett

Hi.

I'm able to play this game. I use cxgames_8.1.3 on Ubuntu 9.10 x86_64 with an nvidia 8500GT (185.18.36 drivers) to run the game.
I installed the game in it's own WinXP bottle and also installed vcredist_x86, which is mentioned in another thread (I think you mentioned it).

The game should be playable with minor problems, as far as I have tested it.

David

(sorry for my bad english)

Yes it was me that put it there. I found it was needed with winetricks. Im using the 190.42 drivers so that might be my issue, at least its the only one I can think of.

And don't worry about your English, I wouldn't have noticed if you didn't say anything.

Hm. I just tried the game with the 190.42 drivers and I was able to play it. confused
Do you use the newest version of cxgames/cxoffice?

Yes Im using the most to date version of cxgames

Hi,

I've just been watching this thread from the background - my interest is with possible
changes between the nvidia 185.xx.xx drivers, and the current 190.42 bundle...I have
noted a few changes with other titles/crossover-games with the 190.xx drivers.

Is that what you are seeing here?...ie; does not work with 185.xx drivers, but
does work with 190.42 ??

Curious to know for sure....

Cheers!

No for David it ran on both the 185. drivers and the 190.42, but for me it won't run at all with the 190.42 drivers, and I REALLY don't feel like downgrading to 185. ones right now. I may later but not right now

Ahh, okay, thanks for the clarification.

Cheers!

UPDATE: I tried running the game with 3 different nvidia drivers (185.18.36,190.42,195.22-beta) and none of them worked, so I am assuming that its not the problem.

Any other ideas out there? Im running on a 64bit system, but I have all the 32 bit libs

I take it you are also installing the nvidia driver's 32bit libs as well? Have
you tried enabling 'emulate a virtual desktop' in winecfg? You don't have any
desktop effects like compriz etc running? Just things off the top of my head
kinda thing...

Cheers!

I hadn't thought of the emulate desktop thing, but that didn't work either, and yes i have the lib32-nvidia stuff installed. I don't have compiz running, but I do have basic composing on with metacity, but it has never messed with any apps that I know of. The only other thought that came to my mind was if my 2nd monitor was messing with it, but if that was the case I should have ran in the emulated virtual desktop.

This one truly has me stumped :|

Hmmm.....the only other 'quickie' I can think of, is installing directx runtime
into the same bottle and seeing it that helps...otherwise I'd probably be better
off downloading the client and letting my penguin here have at it to see if I can
uncover any clue...(I have multiple different nvidia cards to crosscheck with ;)

Cheers!

The directx runtime didn't help either.

One thing I should point out it that if i try to close the program when its like that, I get the program is not responding thing.

@Brett -- btw, what OS/platform are you using?

64 bit Archlinux on the 2.6.31 kernel with a 2.66 ghz dual core. I know that it is not a supported OS, but all my apps run great on it (all but this an L4D2--ugg--)

HAHA! I got the log in screen loaded by following this quide: http://timashley.me/node/185
I wasnt able to make this game run in CXGAMES just wine.

The only problem I have now it that is always says my password is wrong, even when I know I have the right password because I can log into the web site.

Good stuff, now we have a clearer picture of what's going on.....

To (more or less) replicate the information you linked to into the crossover/wine
environment (instead of wine/winetricks) is a fiddly something that goes like this;

create a new bottle with cxgames ... perhaps I lean towards the win2000 profile here, or winxp
install Microsoft Visual C++ redistributable package using cxgames cxinstaller
archive this bottle and quit cxgames
start cxoffice's cxsetup (standard/demo/pro) and restore the above cxarchive into the cxoffice environment
now install the Internet Explorer 6 target into this bottle (a supported install target in cxoffice)
you might try installing the game now as well...or...archive this bottle now and restore it in cxgames before installing the game
either way, whether you choose to install the game whilst in cxoffice or not, once IE6 (and/or the game) are installed, archive the bottle again
now quit cxoffice, and restore the cxarchive that now has IE6 installed into it, and try either installing or running the game (depending
on what you chose to do in cxoffice)

That's a real muck-around, I know, but until cxgames supports IE6 as an installation dependency, (or
gets the improvements already in the latest model wine branches) that's the sort of hoops you have to
jump through currently that may get things working in cxgames...

Cheers!

Ok I did some tests over the past 2 days and heres the results.

WINXP BOTTLE:
Installed C++: PASS
Installed Rom: PASS
Tested Rom as is: FAIL, can't see login screen
Added -game -opengl to launch: FAIL, can't see login screen
Installed IE6: PASS
Tested Rom as is: FAIL, can't see login screen
Added -game -opengl to launch: FAIL, can't see login screen
End Result: Black login screen when Rom is launched

WIN2000 BOTTLE
Installed C++: PASS
Installed Rom: PASS
Tested Rom as is: FAIL, can't see login screen
Added -game -opengl to launch: FAIL, can't see login screen
Installed IE6: PASS
Tested Rom as is: FAIL, ClientUpdate.exe has encountered a serious problem
Added -game -opengl to launch: FAIL, ClientUpdate.exe has encountered a serious problem
End Result. Can't open the game updater.

In the end the only real difference I can think of is wine versions. CXGAMES uses wine 1.1.25 and when I didn't use cxgames it was wine version 1.1.33

Hi,

Have you tried setting the following registry keys?

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\Direct3D]
"Multisampling"="enabled"
"UseGLSL"="disabled"

Cheers!

Oh sorry I didn't see that i got a reply!

With your regedit key and some time the login screen shows up, but with no txt.
If I enter my username and password there, I still get the wrong password error
