Runes of Magic on Mac

So here is the development of this project.

As you can see, we are edging closer to getting this running smoothly on Mac (Linux just got this up and running a few days ago).

Any suggestions, findings, or questions regarding the development of this project can be posted here.

Thanks for all the help everyone, I know we can get this working!

Update 3-19-2009
I posted a vid:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q68vTUYd5lo. This was running a nightly build (3-16-2009). It seems that the useGLSL string in the Direct3D key of the registry has some role in all this.

Go on!

I'd love to play this game on linux and on some graphic cards what is happening is the same as on mac.

So, if you solve the problem, the game should work for me with linux too doing the same thing.

Yeah I have given up on this. I have received no feedback from CodeWeavers, and there just arent enough people out there who care enough about getting this game (or games similar to it) playing on Mac.

This is available for Linux already (and works fine) just do a search on winehq forums.

For the record...

It is much easier for us to look into and keep track of issues you are seeing or help you would like if you either open a support ticket or send an email to info@codeweavers.com.

We all do our best to read all of the forum posts, but getting a response may sometimes require a little more jumping up and down. Our apologies for this, but with 500+ forum posts a week in addition to the many other channels to contact us, we have a hard time keeping track of anything. If you have not heard from us, a support ticket or an email will yield better results.

Now, there are (of course) more things that you can try. BUT, as you have read on wineHQ, vmware, and many other sources, there are a lot of road blocks in the way.

The thread on our site about the registry settings being for everything... you are only adjusting the registry settings for the bottle that RoM is in.

Next thought... we very, very recently upgraded what version of DirectX gets installed when installing it through CrossOver. I suggest a) that DirectX be installed through CrossOver and b) that you reinstall and verify that you are not using the cache version of DirectX.

As I said in one of the other forum posts... there is something strange (and we don't know the full details yet on it) with the additional aspect of the Mac 10.5.6 upgrade and the X3100 machines. There are suggestions on the Apple forms for how to reverse the specific driver piece that affects the X3100 cards, you might want to look into that... and there may be additional caveats of the X3100/CXGames 7.2 mixture, but I believe (because I play Perfect World on my puny GMA 950 and only recently saw it start to work, hooray for having a cursor!) that 7.2 is probably the best to go with.

There is hope... not an extreme amount of hope, but for all the things I never thought would work with CrossOver that already have, this is probably the right place for hope. We do have advantages over VMWare and Parallels because we are not attempting to virtualize the hardware on the system. But the disadvantage is that we must then depend on the systems drivers and when they are broken... it takes more effort and research to get applications running.

I strongly recommend that you file a support ticket (or send an email) so that you can get on the bug about X3100 graphics cards if necessary. This way, if we find something, we will let you know.

If you don't know, RUnes of Magic doesn't work fully on linux!

Me and some ppl have tried for much time making a patch to make Nvidia 7xxx working with this game. The Nvidia 7xxx aren't working on linux.

If you want to see, go to Runes of Magic Official Release on Winehq and see the bug report.

If we fix it, it will probably fix mac too.

Hi guys,

Is there something new about Rune of magic on Mac?

I really want to play this game, but i don't want bootcamp.

Hi,

just a little update from my side to Runes of Magic on Mac with CrossOver Games. Since one of the latest Client updates RoM does not even start under CrossOver Games (using the latest rc of V8).

Juergen

Hi,
To run latest game client you need to install Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86). After that, game will update successfully and you will be able to run it. But you won't be able to login because of login box doesn't appear. People are reporting that some registry fixes can show it, but I can't confirm it.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\Direct3D]
"Multisampling"="enabled"
"UseGLSL"="disabled"

link found on wineHQ bugtracker to the german RoM forum with that regfix

Hi everyone
Some months later I still cannot run Runes of Magic on my iMac. I have an ATI Radeon HD4850 and it seems to be the problem (no ATI card supported yet)

Does anyone have news about this ?

I am a professional IT, with some dev skills, I could maybe help ?

Regards,

Gwen

Looks like Runes of Magic runs on Mac under Crossover games 9.2.0.

My installation steps.

  1. Create bottle for WinXP
  2. Install Internet Explorer 7
  3. Install VCRun 2005
  4. Download and unpack the installer, I used the 3.5 GB slim installer
  5. Install Runes of Magic from the installer *
  6. Launch the game and patch the game, patching for me took a little under 120 minutes.
  7. Play game and smile a lot.

While I was poking around in the game, it did lock up a couple of times. Once right after the character selection screen and once after the EULA screen.

  • My installer failed twice but I I think I was just trying to get my poor little MacBook to do too much at once.

Hey Shane,
Nice work getting the game to work under 9.2.0. I followed your exact steps and could not get it running however. All I see is white screen after the patching and hear the music. I am currently using a MacBook Pro (10.6.6) with an Nvidia 9400 graphics card.
