I was unable to download the full game through Crossover v11.2 onto my iMac 2007 with OSX 10.7.4, but I used a download manager in Firebox to download the full 8.9 GB Runes_of_Magic_5.0.0.2535_full.7z from Atomic Gamer in 7 hours. It took between 30-60 mins to extract it with Unarchiver. Then with a blank winxp bottle I installed the game running ROMSetup.exe
After installing the microsoft visual c++ 2005 and 2008 redistributable I was able to run the Runes of Magic.app, the ClientUpdate.exe appeared, then a launch screen (screenshot uploaded) and it started downloading and patching to the latest version v5.0.1.2553.en. Several hours later I finally I could hit the Start button. It opened a black window with the letter "R" (first letter of Runes of Magic) on top that was resizable. It changed into a orange landscape (screenshot uploaded) with a rotating floating rock in the foggy distance and about 10 flickering distortions in the trees. No background music as the master volume was off (audio configuration) and no login screen.
I tried to install the following components without being able to get further: Core Fonts, msls31, MS DirectX runtime - Modern and DirectX9. The latter gave me a Crossover error. I was unable to uninstall these components, so I had to delete the bottle, reinstall and run the update again (very tiresome). In the video configuration the max resolution was 1024x768, windowed was ticked on and several effects. Next attempt will be with all effects off and full screen. My video card is an ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT 128 MB.
The patching stopped after 3.5 hours with a dialog window I could only partial read "File patch_5.0.1.2541.en_5.0.1.2550.en.exe download e". There's a word under File and after download e is the first letter of a new word. I assume the full message was "File patch_5.0.1.2541.en_5.0.1.2550.en.exe download ended unexpected"
Then a message there's no Window application associated. I had to quit the launcher and Crossover to start the patch launcher again. After a break the patch completed, I pressed start and in full screen with all effected turned off I have the same result (see screenshot)
Because I also wanted to be able to run the web browser client of the game I also installed Internet Explorer 7 (see other forum post). IE 7 installed several other components: Flash 10 ActiveX Control, MS XML Parser (MSXML) 3.0, MS XMLLite for Windows XP, msls31, several TrueType (core) fonts and Wine Gecko (32-bit). With all this installed I still get no further than the orange landscape screen and no login window.
