Runes of Magic on CX 10.2.0 Mac Lion 10.7.2 (almost successful!)

I successfully installed RoM on my mac and my information is the same as above, but when I try to login it says "connection lost, please check connection or firewall setting." This might just be me so I'll let you guys know what I did and you can try RoM out for yourself.

  1. Create new bottle (using "Manage Bottles")
  2. Install software (applications tab)
  3. Install into the bottle, in order:
    core fonts
    Direct X modern
    Microsoft Visual C++ 2005
    Microsoft HTML Rendering Engine 7

(the packages will be under the Runtime Support Components section of the CX's install software menu, but I believe one of those packages is under community supported applications)

  1. Install the RoM client now ("install software" again on the manage bottle menu, don't create another separate bottle and install RoM under "other application" as I believe there isn't a community supported one)

  2. Let the client run through and when it finishes installing click "Finish" "Ok" (whatever it is) and to get CX to finish the install (at least for me) you may need to exit out of the client (only after it has downloaded and installed)

  3. RoM should be ready to go and for those of you that don't know... patching is nightmarishly long. At first I thought the patcher was broken and it was applying the same patch every time insert laugh here. Yes, that's really how long it takes so be patient.

Hope this works for you and btw some of this information was taken from Jack Phinney, I didn't get it from him directly but I found this information on a RoM ticket and it seems to work for this version of CX. I posted this since it seemed that macs were having trouble with download and install (although if i'm not mistaken linux seems well :P) Good luck and if you know anything about "connection lost" please let me know.

Edit: I managed to fix my connection issue by patching the runedev.ini manually. I may have had a corrupt download because I didn't have it. I patched it from here[link=http://us.runesofmagic.com/us/news,id203,cant_log_wrong_server_try_this.html][/link] and I was able to login. Simply download the patch then run it in your runes of magic installer. Note: I wouldn't recommend doing this unless you had same problem as me.

Hi...

...actually, this has been broken for some time now on the Mac & many
linux boxen wearing Ati video cards. Iirc, that was true the last time
I checked on the iMac (with both OSX and Deb6) .. installing it hasn't
been a problem for some time ; getting it to run is another story...

...granted, I've not checked it since 4.0.2.2440 (and that likely means
pre 10.7.2), so I've got it updating while I type, to see what the state
of play is now ,,, I'll get back to this...

Cheers!

Update: same planet ; different day ....RoM still doesn't run on
the 11,2 iMac here w/ HD5670 video ; it does still run on my
nvidia fitted linux box I'm typing on. So it would appear as though
the winebug closest to this error (17818) is still unresolved...

...I think I might sticky the other thread that exists here about
this.... what would interest me is the system specs of the 2 Mac
users that ranked this silver/gold...

Cheers!

I was able to logon to runes of magic so everything seems fine with me. My graphic card is a Nvidia GeForce 320M. The game just seems real tricky... some people seem able to run it on mac and others are less successful.

Hi...

...go figure ; the 320M is a pain with other titles, but is working
for you here. I checked RoM on the same iMac hardware but running Deb6,
and it's still a no go there as well, so it really does tend to look like
some Ati bug (likely drivers) that affects both linux & Mac...

Cheers!
