Runes of Magic under Crossover Games 10.x (not working for Mac)

I've tried several times to get Runes of Magic running under Crossover Games 10.0.0 and 10.0.1.

So far I can get the game installed and patched but when the game launches, the login prompt displays but when I login I immediately receive a message that the connection has been lost. This is the same message I get in Runes of Magic if the login servers are down.

However, at the asme time I am not able to connect through Crossover games I am able to connect if I log in on my windows machine.

I'd love to get this one up and running again. If you have any advice - I'm willing to try almost anything.

Hi...

Let's see here .... did you check this in beta? Did you file a report? If not, you've 'missed the boat' as it were - a lot of the time, that's what beta reports are about, getting things noticed and fixed -before- a new release comes out .. doesn't always work that way...

.... I've just read the other threads here ...the only posting that jumps out at me is Caron's, and that speaks to a specific machine situation. Seeing as you're willing to do anything, I want you to circumnavigate the world in a non-motorized bathtub with no oars... 8^)

..I'll have a look at it, but can you please post back your machine information...ie; which model Mac, what version of OSX, which video chipset/card it has...oh, and are you using a wireless connection or not... I'll be testing on the iMac here with wired ethernet...

Cheers!

I've been trying to get the game installed since prior to the RC being announced. I only had one single success installing under 9.2 before and after that I have not been successful.

I am working on a MacBook (white) with single processer 2.4ghz with dual core. My graphics card is an NVIDIA GeForce 320M with 256 MB. OSX is version 10.6.6.

I have used both wireless and wired but more often than not I am on wireless.

Good timing! I was just sitting here right now, about to install RoM onto the iMac - it's an 11,2 with HD5670 video. I've actually downloaded the full installer from ...from ... augamers.com - the file is name 'Runes_of_Magic_3.0.4.2263_aus.zip', filesize is 3,615,085,642biscuits ;) - this extracts to 4 .bin files, along with ROMSetup.exe itself)..

...I've prepared a minimalist bottle with mshtml7 + vcrun2005 ; will post an update shortly...

Update: well, it installed ok, starting it up and it immediately displayed a pop-up asking which locale I am in, selected and hit OK ... and now it sits there in an unresponsive state.. I'll have to dig at it deeper, but can confirm the general misbehavior...

Update 2: a winelib override for wininet.dll gets around that issue (one is provided by installing mshtml7, it's just we don't use/need it a lot of the time ;)

Update3:

...after some testing and investigation, it seems to me
to most likely be the following bug manifesting itself;

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17818

Cheers!

@ Shane -- there you go, I've triaged it for you, hoisted a wishlist bug on it, the rest is in the lap of the gods...(I will look at it in linux later ;)

Cheers!

Hello players ;)

I downloaded the seven days test version of CrossOver Games 10.0.1 and I want to test RoM.

1) I installed IE7 and a VC++ 2005 enviroment to my WinXP bottle.
2a) I copied my up to date RoM windows client to this bottle.
2b) I downloaded the new client, installed it and received all updates.

Unfortunately I couldn't login to RoM:
http://s1.directupload.net/file/d/2434/nfgh7rki_png.htm

Translation: Connection not possible. Please check the connection and firewall settings.

This requester pops up after pressing the "Anmelden"/login button.

I use MacOS X 10.6.6 on a newer Mac Mini and I already disabled the firewall at MacOS X. Star Trek Online works correctly (other and same bottle) and RoM works on my Bootcamp Windows 7 installation without any problems.

Yesterday and today I searched for a solution. It seems there are some dlls like winsock and wininet. Unfortunately they doesn't help me with my problem. Maybe I didn't done the correct settings at the config.

Does anyone know this problem (and the solution :) and can help me?

BTW after this login RoM should receive the server list. There are some issues related to this topic but I'm not sure if this is the same problem.

Thanks for all your effort Don!

I am able to get past the error you are getting, to the same failure point Convincer is hitting. I can get the game to install and patch and launch. I get through the EULA and to the logon screen but when I log in I immediately receive the lost connection dialog.

I am going to give the install another try another try next weekend. I don't know why there is such a regression from version 9.2 to version 10.0. I might end up running Crossover 9.2 just to play Runes of Magic.

Today I installed CrossOver Games 9.2 and I can play RoM now. The installation of CO Games and the bottle takes about 15 minutes. Nice work ;)
It seems there is a problem with the COG 10.0.1 version.

@Shane Knysh:
Thank you for the "downgrading" idea ;)

I have a Mac OS X version 10.5.8 and i've been able to install RoM up until the ClientUpdate.exe...it gives me an error message saying;

"The program ClientUpdate.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close...This can be caused by a problem in the program or a deficiency in Wine."

Can anyone help me?

I get to the client than it gets to the extract part of the update and it tells me i have to check the compatablity page because it experiences a serious problem whats going on? I can't even attempt the log in because it updates game data than at upper 80's it shuts off saying serious problems anyone know what the problem is?

I just rechecked this against the Mac & CXG-10.1 still no change. RoM installs
and patches fine, but, it never gets to the login screen on the Mac.

I've added this thread to the bug, and further indicated it to be a possible
regression (seeing as people have been having success in CXG-9.x)

I have found no resolve or workaround for this issue as of yet. At present,
you will either need to use an older version of CXG or consider using Wine
pure to run RoM ...

Cheers!

Runes of Magic now works fine in 11.02 (Crossover), only had to install Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime (2005 and 2008). No other changes required from a new win2k bottle

The initial downloader (you get a 1mb download which downloads the rest of the client files) I had to change to the built in msvcrt.dll but I didn't have 2005 vc run time installed as I installed that for the game

I have played the game with out any issues so I guess it could be made a Gold in quality and maybe someone can build a TIE for it

thanks for this info! i installed the game just fine,and patched just fine with a winxp bottle with microsoft visual 2005+2008 and core fonts...

im using the 'slim' client but the problem for me is that... the configuration button on the launcher is not working and my mac kind of shows a black and white screen when it goes into fullscreen mode

any way i can change the resolution of the game without using the launcher e.g. changing some numbers with text edit? 😏

Runes of Magic newest version 4.0.11.2525e no longer works under Crossover (Mac). I am using the full version of the client (trying now with the lite version).

The game can install and update, but when trying to run, it gives an error stating "Error assembling VS". I read in some forum that this was due to the game now requiring the newest version of DirectX.

The same behavior occurs under wine (I was playing the game under wine in my mac before the last update without any problem).

Can anyone assist in resolving this problem?
