It installs, it runs (DVD version with 3 versions of Myst)

Installation went fine. Just install it in win98 bottle and install quiktime.
After that startup winecfg and at graphic tab deslect the 2 options above virtual desktop.
Save and play the game.

Its runs great, BUT no sound!

I know that it should be a quiktime setting...but i tried some quiktime features, but i can figure it out what the problem is...
Maybe someone can help me with this. For the rest the game runs great! rate it Silver for now...

Paul the Tall (submitted some screens to show it works)

Edit: Sound works too found out the audiofix:
go to your Riven installation folder and open up "Mohawk.w32" with your editor. Search for "fEnableAudioProxy" and set it to true(originally, it was needed to set it to false, but it seems that this Riven version differs).

Silver sounds kinda high for a game with no sound. I'll have to play around with it, but I didn't get it to install at all.
Maybe it's a Linux / Mac thing as I have a Linux machine.

Yeah still doesn't work on Linux. Doesn't start at all.

Well As you know Myst game is more puzzle and text, there is only speech in little things. The game itself runs perfectly you can do everything everywhere as it should. So thats why i ranked it silver

Silver Medal
The Silver rank is awarded to applications that install and run well enough to be usable. This means that the consensus of our users is that you can expect to use these applications on an everyday basis with good results. However, they also contain bugs that prevent them from running flawlessly.

As you see it is very usable. So silver is a correct ranking.

What doesn`t start? I used a dvd version with 3 versions of Myst wherunder Myst 2 Riven. Perhaps there is the point. Its a newer dvd.
Could you tell me where it fails at your point? Error messages or something else?

The game appears to install but the installer quits so I'm not sure it installs correctly.
When I try to launch it nothing happens. So it doesn't work at all.

Thank you for looking up the medal definition. I still think it doesn't deserve a Silver Medal with no audio. Riven like Myst, I think, rely on creating a deep atmosphere of exploration. And this is accomplished with use of stereo audio to immerse the user into the environment, in addition to to the graphics and the videos implanted in it.

Glad to see that it is at least playable on your system. Hope the new Cxg gets better playability on my end.

Well, i think the soundproblem is in the quiktime issue. I tried a load of things to make that part work, (installed all kind of versions of quiktime) but everytime it gives an error that there is no newer version than version 2, even if i installed number 4, 5 or version 6 in that bottle. Tried a win98 bottle and an xp bottle, both same results. I dont think (what ive seeing/heard) that they have taken that part in the new version of Crossover Games.

And yeah the playability of Riven is perhaps in your old version of Riven (cd), i have 3 versions on one dvd they brought out a while ago, so perhaps newer technology on that dvd made it work at my side.
I will make an suggestion the the developers to look into this (Quiktime issue).

How did you get this to install on mac? Anytime I insert this disk I can't get anything but the mac files to mount on the desktop.

Well probably u use the 2 disc version of Riven. I Used the DVD version of riven where: Myst masterpiece, Riven and Exile is on one DVD. Its a german DVD. I use that version in this instruction manual. What i have heard it works in Wine for linux users http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=140 but for mac or in crossover games the 2 disc versions doesn't work yet.

I have this kind of version: http://www.ubi.com/US/Games/Info.aspx?pId=1042, but then i bought it much cheaper (9 euros or something) in a store in Germany (not so fancy wrap, just a simple dvd cover). And in the German language too :(....luckily i can set languages in Exile though (in spoken text and in subtitles). Riven is on in total german unfortunately on that german dvd. i followed the instructions of that version on WineHQ here: http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=10719&iTestingId=26485 (at the description you see that they used the German version also there).

Riven will be available on GOG.com (xp and vista compatible).
This makes a good chanche to get it run now without problems.

I can install OK, but when I go to run the program I get an error that some files are missing, and to reinstall. I've tried win98 and win2k bottles. Any ideas?
