Hi all,

Using the WoW build of Crossover on an up-to-date Gentoo box with KDE and proprietary Nvidia drivers. Fresh install of RIFT, but once I click on "Play" from the Launcher, the screen just goes black. No audio, no real response from key presses, but I do get the RIFT mouse cursor at least.

One thing that was brought to my attention was when during the initial install, the DirectX part seems to have failed at the very end. I continued the installation regardless and there appeared to be no other errors. Trying to manually install DirectX didn't seem to be working either.

What should I do next to help diagnose the issue?

I haven't played with Gentoo yet but lets start with basic stuff and see if we can fix it

Right now I'm running rift on crossover 17.5 on ubuntu 17.10 with a win 7 -32bit bottle

when you installed it do you remember what bottle you used ( like xp or win 7) mine is in a XP - 64 bit but i will try a new install to see if i get the same
what installer did you use steam or download

Have you had issues with DirectX before or is this the first time using it

My new test install is with the download installer using Win 7 32-bit bottle DirectX installed fine and game is up and running

Sorry for my delay. It looks like a Win7 bottle as per the Crossover Software installer. I did an install through the web download, not the steam one. If I try to manually install DirectX, it still fails too... I did finally find a log file in the bottle that might help, though!

the only thing i can think of is a corrupted direct installer short of deleting the WTF and cache folders ( wow trick to fix many things) not sure if that can be done.

maybe export your bottles and try reinstalling crossover on it self or purge crossover and reinstall

Thanks for all your help! I tried on an Ubuntu install and RIFT installed out of the box without any issues at all. There must be some dependency that Gentoo needs me to install or something. If I can find what it is, I'll post it here 😊

Found it! I forgot to build the GSM and OpenAL libraries as 32-bit. Re-emerged 'em and it worked like a charm!
