New Storm Legion Beta Install

I got accepted into the latest RIFT Beta called storm legion I really want to check it out but I cant figure out how to install it.
Ive tried changing the tie file to match the new installer app but no luck. Does anyone wanna try to figure out the install?

Sincerely,

Chris G.

I just downloaded the beta and can't install it either. Crossover hits some sort of exception when I try. Unfortunately, I can't get the beta .exe self-extracting archive to extract without Crossover.

Please help, I really want to see this beta!

Nothing yet - I can't get the beta to stop crashing after accepting the license agreement.

Given that this is still beta 1, our QA & Devs probably won't be thoroughly testing until beta 3 at the earliest, since the installer mechanism is likely to change quite a bit between now and the final release.

Wow, Jack, you got as far as the licensing agreement? I didn't get that far when I tried to install the beta client as "Other Program".

I think Trion will try to stick to beta clients for its beta tests and just have the new release be a massive download for those that pre-ordered it.

In any case, the next beta event is Friday the 19th, so we need to think of something fast!

I used the "RIFT" choice in the Install Software menu to install from the beta .exe (i.e. I pointed the installer at that .exe, rather than allowing Crossover to automatically download the normal client). It's the Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 package that allows the license agreement to render, but I haven't been able to actually get the installer/downloader going, so agreeing to the license is small comfort.

Anyway, typically we don't spend a whole lot of time on beta clients because that invariably results in a lot of "wild goose chases" with bugs that don't later appear in the final version. It'll still be good to take a look at each subsequent beta and see if the installer mechanism changes enough that we can work with it, but we probably won't be re-assigning any devs to the task of debugging the beta installer for the aforementioned reason.
