The first and most important thing to check is to make sure that you're running with the "low quality"/"Legacy" renderer. You can make sure this is set even before launching the game, again (shamelessly copied from Tips & Tricks):

Go to Configure>Manage Bottles, select the RIFT bottle, then choose Advanced>Open C: Drive in Finder, browse to

drive_c/users/crossover/Application Data/RIFT/rift.cfg

open that "rift.cfg" file in a text editor

Change LegacyRenderer to "True"

Save the file

Launch RIFT and login.

Any difference?

I managed to get the game into Legacy graphics. (Had to do it from the game; when I tried to open rift.cfg, the Mac thought I wanted to play Battle of Wesnoth.) I still can't see my character. I see the rest of the screen, including the nifty green glow that's supposed to be behind the character, just fine.

I admit that RIFT seems to be downloading some sort of huge patch at the moment, but it is supposed to be playable right now.

Thanks for the fast response!

Okay, the game needed to download a bit more of the patch. Now I can see my character in character generation. That's the good news.

The bad news is that the head is distorted, floating a bit, and unresponsive to the customization commands. Argh!

argh, that's a known issue our devs are working on, it affects some AMD cards. I'll create a ticket out of your forum post and attach it to the bug in question (and then follow up with you via email).
